ജെര്‍മനിയിലെ ബെര്‍ലിനില്‍ നിന്നുമുള്ള ഒരു കൂട്ടം ശാസ്ത്രകുതുകികള്‍ സ്വന്തമായി നിര്‍മ്മിച്ച അവരുടെ ബഹിരാകാശവാഹനം ചന്ദ്രനിലേക്ക് അയക്കാന്‍ തീരുമാനിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്. അവര്‍ വിക്കിപീഡിയയെ കൂടി അയക്കാന്‍ താല്‍പ്പര്യപ്പെടുന്നു. വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ 15-ആം വാര്‍ഷികത്തോട് അനുബന്ധിച്ച്, ഞങ്ങളുടെ ലോകമെങ്ങുമുള്ള എഡിറ്റേഴ്സിനെ അവസാനവട്ട തിരുത്തലുകള്‍ക്ക് ക്ഷണിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്.
വിക്കിപീഡിയ ചന്ദ്രനിലേക്ക് - സംഷിപ്തരൂപം
ഗൂഗിളിന്റെ ലൂണാര്‍ എക്സ് പ്രൈസ് ചലഞ്ചില്‍ മത്സരിക്കുന്ന 5 ടീമുകളില്‍ ഒന്നാണ് അവര്‍. അവരുടെ ലക്‌ഷ്യം രണ്ടായിരത്തി പതിനെഴോട് കൂടി ചന്ദ്രനിലെത്തി, വാഹനം സുരക്ഷിതമായി ഇറക്കി, 500 മീറ്ററോളം ഓടിച്ച്, തിരികെ ഭൂമിയിലേക്ക് ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ അയക്കുക എന്നതാണ്. അവരുടെ വാഹനത്തില്‍ സ്ഥലപരിധിയുണ്ട്. എങ്കിലും വിക്കിപീഡിയക്കായി ജെര്‍മ്മന്‍ വിക്കിപീഡിയ ചാപ്റ്റര്‍ നല്‍കിയ ഡാറ്റ ഡിസ്ക്കുമായാണ് അവര്‍ പോവുന്നത്.
എന്ത് കൊണ്ട് വിക്കിപീഡിയയെ വെറുതേയങ്ങ് ഡിസ്ക്കില്‍ നിക്ഷേപിച്ചു കൂടാ? ഡിസ്ക്കിലെ സ്ഥലം പരിമിതമാണെന്നതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ. ഏറ്റവും വലിയ വിക്കിപീഡിയകളില്‍ ഒന്നിനെപ്പോലും അതില്‍ ഉള്‍ക്കൊള്ളിക്കാന്‍ സാധിക്കില്ല.പക്ഷെ വിക്കിപീഡിയയുടെ ഒരു ചെറുചിത്രമേ കൊണ്ടുപോകാന്‍ സാധിച്ചൊള്ളൂവെങ്കിലും അതില്‍ "മനുഷ്യവിജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ ആകത്തുക" അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കണം. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ വിക്കിപീഡിയ സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ ഗുണങ്ങള്‍ മാത്രമല്ല വിവിധ സംസ്കാരങ്ങളും, വിവിധ വീക്ഷണങ്ങളും, ശബ്ദങ്ങളും അതില്‍ ഉള്‍ക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കണം.

At Wikimedia Deutschland, we think that the best way to decide about a space-traveling snapshot of Wikipedia is to resort to the strengths of its basic principles: This is an anniversary gift to all Wikipedia communities all over the world. Let us discuss as a global movement and collaborate on-wiki. It’s a unique challenge in and of itself, because never before have all Wikipedia communities at the same time been called out to decide and work on a project with limited space ... and time. In order to meet the payload deadline for the Moon rover, we have to work with an editing deadline, as well. Our goal is to have finished community discussions, decisions and content preparations by the International Volunteer Day (5th December) 2016:
