Wikimedia España is a Spanish non-profit organization, recognized by the Wikimedia Foundation as Wikimedia chapter in Spain.

It was approved by the Wikimedia Foundation on February 7, 2011 , who published the resolution two days later, and registered on February 11, 2011. Its inscription in the Registro Nacional de Asociaciones of the Spanish Interior Ministry was confirmed on April 15, 2011.

Its aim is to promote, directly or indirectly, the development of Free Knowledge promoting related projects, especially those projects hosted and supported by the Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. , in all the languages spoken in Spain.

If you want to join Wikimedia Spain, you only have to follow the steps outlined in https://www.wikimedia.es/participa. The membership fee is 15 € per year (excluding minors), plus 5 € at the time of registration. You can also help by making a donation via bank transfer, PayPal or Bitcoin; for more details visit https://www.wikimedia.es/donar. To participate in most of our activities membership is not required; all those interested in supporting our goals are welcome.

Among the activities carried out by the chapter to achieve its goals are the following:

• Content: contact and agreements with cultural and educational institutions that can release contents under a free license (CC-BY and CC-BY-SA) for later use in the Wikimedia projects. Support for the creation of free content by digitizing works. Photographic accreditation for sports, musical or cultural events. Organization of Wiki Takes and similar initiatives that seek to obtain photographic material. Organization of photographic contests like Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiki Loves Earth and Wiki Loves Folk. Organization of editing contests such as the Monuments of Spain Challenge. Organization of editathons and similar events that encourage editing Wikipedia.
• Promotion: presentations and talks at events and institutions. Organization of commemorative events related to the Wikimedia projects. Participation and support for various movements for free knowledge. Organization of exhibitions.
• Communication: writing and distributing press releases. Attention to the press, radio and television. Notification of events concerning the Wikimedia movement through social networks.
• Training: organization of courses for professionals and students. Editing training sessions.
