Title: Strategic inclusion of library data on Wikidata – lessons from an ongoing project
[edit ]Abstract:
[edit ]Wikimedia Sverige is cooperating with the National Library of Sweden to import source and authority metadata to Wikidata. We will outline how the library’s transition to the Bibframe 2.0 data model facilitates synergies with Wikidata, giving us a stepping stone to a large-scale import of bibliographical information of books.
We are building on the experience of other WikiCite contributors, who have laid groundwork for using Wikidata as a bibliographical database with a focus on scholarly articles. Our work with books has presented us with different challenges, but also offered exciting opportunities to bring Wikidata closer to Wikipedia editors – many of whom work with book sources rather than articles. By collecting and analyzing data on the most popular sources used in Swedish Wikipedia articles, we gained an insight into which metadata could be of most use to the community.
Also included in our project is ongoing communication with the National Library and activities to engage the staff and show the possibilities opened by Linked Open Data. Our goal is to develop a forward-looking strategy that will benefit both the Wikimedia community and the library in the long run.
