- Thanks for this tool. Usually I just use glamorous but that's not very efficient. Can the queries be reused in FIST, in your opinion? I'd like to try making a patch for FIST, which among other things can filter articles by number of images present. --Nemo 08:51, 1 March 2015 (UTC) Reply
- None of the queries are particularly clever or anything, so yes, they can be re-used, or just recreated (since FIST is PHP and my code is Ruby). FIST almost covers the use case I'm targeting here, but not quite. But even if I were to offer a patch for FIST (which I'm, uh, unlikely to find motivation to do, as it would require me to use PHP :-p), the other big reason I wrote this tool is that I thought it needs to be something much simpler than the swiss-army-chainsaw approach of FIST. Like WDQ and some other Magnus tools (and much unlike the Wikidata Game), FIST is a power user's tool.

There is also toollabs:fist/wdfist/. Few wikis/templates actually display P18 anywhere, so it's hard to convince an institution that the work is worth it, but maybe you're lucky! --Nemo 07:37, 16 July 2015 (UTC) Reply

This seems like a really interesting underused tool. What do you think about combining it with Suggested Edits? Your tool may partly implement one way to do what I had in mind here and here (intend to develop things further into a more concise proposal). One could use this to suggest images particularly of a subject (e.g. category Climate change) the user is interested in. It would also be nice if this would also work with Wikipedia categories so one can add images to WP articles in a select WP category. I haven't seen info on how the Suggested Image algorithm works here – if you know where this info is, please link it.
There could be a problem that some Wikipedias may use only very outdated articles so maybe it would be good to have configs for which Wikipedia(s) should be used as 'source WP' (ENWP usually has the latest charts) or generally structure it more/also for syncing articles so not only for image addition but also image replacement when outdated images are used. Lastly, I think a better approach would be to enable adding media to WPs across languages (e.g. via the files set on the Wikidata item) but this could be complementary to the aforementioned manual syncing approach. An issue would be how to prevent new editors to just inconsiderately add any/most potential images and how to determine files that are quite likely to be useful (e.g. when an image is used in> 1 WPs including a top 10 one then it may likely be useful also in the other 299 so people able to edit in these languages would take 299 x 2 minutes to add one image to each). - Hi, @Prototyperspective. I am happy for any re-use of this tool; it is fairly rudimentary, and I never got around to improving it and its UI. I am unfortunately not able to invest time in it myself in the foreseeable future, but anyone wanting to develop it further, whether in integration with Suggested Edits or not, can have my blessing.
