@Tgr: Well, I got to the page from the Movement Charter announcement, not by random wandering, so there are still quite a lot of people who are going to end up on these pages without realising that they're intended to be frozen archives. I know you are guided by a democratic beacon. But consider that previous admins who were active for 4~ years in the Telegram chat https://t.me/wikimedians_for_software_freedom are currently blindly trusting you as new admin, just because you self-promoted so in Matrix 😺

So, while I deeply trust Wikimedians, and as I deeply appreciate the joke of "benevolent dictator" (as you self-described 😺), as I'm a GNU/Linux user and I appreciate that position in many open source software where do-ocracy works 😁 ... in this specific case, talking about a "dictator" may sound like a literal description of what's happening and it's concerning: it's OK if you self-declare admin in Matrix but it's strange if you practically delegitimized previous ones, and if you start a vote to make new admins, being the first voter, self-voting yourself. So, this is a personal feeling I must share: please consider that my feeling is that I'm in danger, since we don't know each other, previous admins do not know you, and we can just blindly trust you.

By common sense: please add today 2 more admins in the Matrix group, cherry-picking previous Telegram admins, and please double-checking that the user is really the same user in both platforms (as in this situations of new platforms is easy to scam administrators; for instance, I'm 100% sure that Ainali is @ainali:matrix.org, and that me is @vboz:matrix.org, while I'm unsure about other previous admins).

So, after this, we can start a really safe conversation about your topic. Premising that we are talking a small Telegram group with 25~ users and 9 Telegram admins... and instead, a Matrix user with just you as admin. Thanks. ValerioBozz (talk) 13:05, 4 June 2026 (UTC) Reply

Just to clarify my use of the terms BDFL, BDFAM and dictator in this context: these are intended to be honest about my (temporarily) unique hold on power in the matrix group, to reduce the psychological barrier for people who wish to point out that that is a bad thing (which you have done). I don't see much point in asserting my good intentions, since it's more useful for you and others to look at the evidence.Trust among us is something to work on: probably you agree here. It was not possible for me to instantaneously trust the prior culture in the Telegram group: building up trust takes time and experience, and is easier with transparency - which is part of the power of the Wikimedia culture and wikis in general. I couldn't find any on-wiki documentation on the Telegram group's culture or decision-making procedures. I put in some effort to look at your onwiki track records. You can also look at my onwiki (and offwiki) track record.It seems to me that the misunderstanding is that you're seeing things from four years of being inside the Telegram group, and you didn't realise that that experience is not visible on-wiki. If you look at things from my point of view, hopefully you'll understand that being suddenly asked to give moderation powers to a bot on a non-free-software server required me to already place a lot of trust in both you and the non-free-software server. I really appreciate this way of thinking and I can't wait to share something more together. We will surely smile together against proprietary software, and more about Free Software, in next events or something, with local friends.

Back to "work", I've seen this phrase:

I now probably understand your feeling.... but I was impacted by the same emotional damage lol 😸 as we tried to encourage everyone to actually create new spaces and bridge them since many years.

For example, straight from the homepage of Wikimedians for software freedom, since 2022:

@Gdarin: As I said just now at BN, yesterday there was (or still is) a page, I think on meta, where either the 2025 election is not linked, or it's there but I missed it. It's a page where each year is shown as a section, in reverse chronological order (most recent at the top); there are also sections for elections to particular committees. The page I was looking at is not history of the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees, which has a prominent warning that it's out of date, and is forward chronological through to 2017.Wikimedia Foundation/Board of Trustees#Current members is fine for what I wanted, with green for the community members.
