Dear 787IYO,
We are sorry to inform you that your application to the 1st Wikiadvocacy meeting in Santiago hasn't been accepted. Due to very limited spots, the scholarship committee privileged candidates with more specific experience in this area. We appreciate your understanding, Kind regards, PDiazR (WMCL) (talk) 14:21, 1 February 2024 (UTC) Reply
Hello. In reviewing your candidacy for the U4C, I looked at some of your edits on your home project, the Hausa Wikipedia.
I was surprised to see that you were creating large articles often within minutes of each other. This is an indication of machine translation and copy/pastes.
So, I spot-checked a few: I ran the accompanying English Wikipedia articles through Google Translate to Hausa, and the results were exactly what you had published on hawiki. Word-for-word with no modification.
Beyond that, you periodically copied template calls which do not exist on the Hausa Wikipedia, resulting in broken tables. Given that the next article you created (after the one linked) was under 4 minutes afterwards, it seems you weren't checking for this.
When you publish an edit on Wikipedia, you agree to "release your contribution under the CC BY-SA 4.0 License". The problem here is that these are not your contributions, they are the English Wikipedia's contributions that you copy/pasted into Google Translate and then into the Hause Wikipedia.
Fortunately, content on Wikipedia is freely licensed, so the content does not need to be outright deleted. You do need to go back and add proper attribution to the source text that you machine-translated (as per the license), and check for the many errors that often result from direct machine translation.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Vermont (πΏοΈβπ³οΈβπ) 22:22, 10 March 2024 (UTC) Reply
- Thanks for always been there for us, we were in a contest to translate articles related to languages "Wikitongues" https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikitongues/Wiki_Loves_Mother_Tongues_Campaign?enroll= were we translate to articles from English to other languages. I thank you for reaching out and will love to learn more from your vast experience and skills 787IYO (talk) 22:30, 10 March 2024 (UTC) Reply
- I don't see how the contest is relevant. You posted unattributed, unmodified machine-translated content on Wikipedia. Are you able to go back and add attribution/review the translations, or would it be better to just delete the pages? Vermont (πΏοΈβπ³οΈβπ) 22:56, 10 March 2024 (UTC) Reply
- I will cross check them and do the needful. 787IYO (talk) 23:03, 10 March 2024 (UTC) Reply
- The two pages you created after your most recent message here (1, 2) are both unedited machine translations from English to Hausa, which is exactly what you said you would stop doing. I see you were recently elected an admin on that project, and I'd ask that you use your new userrights to remove the copyright violations you added.
