Innovation thrives when technology meets purpose.

About me

I am Agamya Samuel, a software developer and open-source contributor passionate about scalable systems and open knowledge. I work at the intersection of software engineering, AI, and Wikimedia technology — building tools and APIs that improve contributor workflows and multilingual access for Indic-language communities.

I am an active member of the Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group and a co-organiser/mentor with WikiClub Tech SHUATS, where I help students and newcomers discover, understand, and contribute to Wikimedia’s technical ecosystem.

My work

Technical focus

My work spans backend-heavy full stack development using Next.js, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL, combined with modern deployment practices such as CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure (AWS & GCP).

I build open-source utilities, APIs, and transliteration tools aimed at making Wikimedia projects more inclusive and developer-friendly, especially for Indic and Persian–Arabic scripts.

Community & mentoring

As part of WikiClub Tech SHUATS, I mentor university-level contributors on Wikimedia technologies — including Gerrit, Phabricator, MediaWiki extensions, Toolforge, and cloud services — to create sustainable, community-driven developer circles.

  • wscontest-backend – backend service for Wikimedia-related contests and workflows.
  • indic-wsstats – tooling to analyse statistics and metrics around Wikimedia-style contests and submissions.

Tools & APIs developed

[edit ]
Indicwiki Transliteration Tool (Toolforge)
A FastAPI-based transliteration API enabling multilingual conversions across Indic and Persian–Arabic scripts such as Sindhi–Hindi, Gurmukhi–Shahmukhi, and more.
The service is designed to support cross-script interoperability for Wikimedia tools and gadgets.
Wikiquote Quote of the Day Parser (Toolforge)
A REST API that fetches and stores daily quotes from Wikiquote, with support for retrieval, filtering, and author-based search.
Intended for reuse in bots, gadgets, dashboards, and teaching/demo environments.

Wikimedia events, speaking & mentoring

How I collaborate

[edit ]
  • I usually work through Gerrit for patches to MediaWiki, extensions, and Toolforge-related repositories.
  • Tasks and ideas are often tracked via Phabricator workboards, especially within IMDUG and student/community initiatives.
  • I try to document as much as possible so that newcomers can onboard faster and reuse existing work instead of reinventing it.

If you’re a student, newcomer, or organiser interested in technical Wikimedia work (especially in the Indic context), feel free to reach out on my talk page or via email.
