Talk:Title blacklist/Archives/2026
.*Modern ?Apizza.*
This part of the title blacklist is preventing me from uploading photographs of the actual Modern Apizza to Wikimedia Commons. Said restaurant has a Wikipedia article and a Wikidata entry. Are there any ongoing problems that somehow relate to this restaurant? Susmuffin (talk) 21:10, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Susmuffin: This was added in 2012; the reason given was cw-spam/ sock . Neither the requestor's edit history nor the adder's show what kind of spam they encountered (though it's possible that the relevant edits have since been deleted). Considering that:
- The subject seems to be notable
- The entry was added a long time ago
- We have better measures against spam nowadays
- The entry can easily be re-added if necessary
- I decided to ignore Chesterton's fence in this case and removed the entry. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 18:48, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
- This was a persistent LTA that would constantly create spam pages (hence they're all deleted). For example, mw:State Street Apizza. Jasper Deng (talk) 09:24, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

Thai general typos and other issues
Hi! Kindly add new rules related to the Thai language. These have already been added to w:th:MediaWiki:Titleblacklist:
เเ is never a correct pronunciation in Thai, so preventing this globally would be useful. Patsagorn Y. (Talk) 17:02, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Patsagorn Y.: I don't think
เเshould be added at all. There are currently 280 pages containing this sequence, most of which are in Thai wikis (usernames) and Commons (filenames). Adding it to the global title blacklist would mean that these users won't be able to create their own user/user talk pages anywhere. I would recommend that you remove it from thwiki's blacklist as well, or at least limit it to applicable namespaces. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 17:35, 7 January 2026 (UTC)- Using เเ in Thai is indeed possible, but it is not generally done. เ and แ have very distinct usages, and เเ has no valid usage at all apart from being a typo. On thwiki, we have w:th:Special:AbuseFilter/1 specifically for this case for the fact that it's not a variation in spelling but something that should never be used at all or else it will not searchable. For the commons' files it should be renamed as well but for old user just left it as is. Patsagorn Y. (Talk) 17:53, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Patsagorn Y.: I'm not questioning whether or not
เเis a typo (I believe that you, as a Thai speaker and a thwiki admin, are correct about it being a typo). What I mean to say is that globally blacklistingเเshould not be done, for the reason that it would also prevent most users (those without thetboverridepermission) from creating user/user talk pages of users, existing and future, who accidentally make this typo during registration. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 18:13, 7 January 2026 (UTC)- That's make sense... It would be fine to exclude it then. What about the rest? Patsagorn Y. (Talk) 18:48, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Patsagorn Y.: Did you mean to tag the "strong language" ones with
newaccountonly? Bad words or not, they might have Wiktionary entries. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 19:09, 7 January 2026 (UTC) - @Patsagorn Y.: Pinging again, in case you missed the last one. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 19:00, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
- (Sorry I almost forgot about this) After some more consideration I think the strong languages part might have too much false positive (even though it is mostly vulgar words). But for the later project name and user group there's some case where user create an account with those words already. I'm not sure whether there's some condition to be met before adding here? Patsagorn Y. (Talk) 03:07, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Patsagorn Y.: As I understand it, the conditions for an entry to be added to the title blacklist is about the same as those for the spam blacklist, for blocking and many other measures: The addition must only for the purpose of damage prevention, and therefore must cause as few false positives as possible. The former should be understood as "to prevent minor, one-off vandalism" (mostly), since blacklisting alone is not very effective against long-term abusers. The latter is based on speculatives on the adder's part. In this case, "the adder" refers to you, who natively understands the words in question, and me (or any other admin), who carries out the request.
- As someone who doesn't speak Thai, I think entries marked with
<newaccountonly>are probably safe to go, since they will only prevent new accounts and not pages, and they seem less prone to the Scunthorpe problem. I can go ahead and add them first, then split the "strong language" part into a new section, unless you have something else to note. - NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 06:46, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

Non-spacing characters
Per w:Wikipedia:Village Pump (policy)#New user's registered username seems bad it has been suggested to prohibit usernames consisting of only non-spacing marks and non-spacing combining marks, for example User:݂ (U+0082 BREAK PERMITTED HERE) and [[User:]] (U+00BA MASCULINE ORDINAL INDICATOR). Thryduulf (talk: meta · en.wp · wikidata) 10:58, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Thryduulf: What exactly is the addition you are proposing? NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 11:19, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- I don't know the technical details, I'm just reporting a proposal raised elsewhere on behalf of user:TooManyFingers (who is not autoconfirmed on this wiki) and user:ahecht (who suggested bringing it here). My understanding is that it would require all usernames to contain at least one printing character. Thryduulf (talk: meta · en.wp · wikidata) 11:41, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Thryduulf: I'm afraid you will need to be more specific than that. Besides, User:o (U+00BA Masculine Ordinal Indicator) is not non-printable. Neither is the more recent User:ູ (U+0EB9 Lao Vowel Sign Uu). NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 12:01, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- @NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh then we need to wait for the other people in the linked discussion on en.wp (I have linked this discussion there) as this is not my proposal. Thryduulf (talk: meta · en.wp · wikidata) 12:06, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Thryduulf The first one was User:݂ (U+0742 Syriac Rukkakha), not U+00BA Masculine Ordinal Indicator. In any case, the ask was for names consisting of only nonspacing marks and nonspacing combining marks, neither of which should ever appear alone, as they are designed to modify other characters, and in the absence of anything else, end up modifying the colon in "User:". -- Ahecht (TALK

- Has someone written the proposed regex yet? This seems fine in general - these usernames are likely disruptive; I suspect we would never accept a rename request TO such a username. — xaosflux Talk 01:18, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Xaosflux: The regex is
^[\p{Mn}\x{0300}-\x{036f}]+$. If I'm not mistaken, entries are matched against the prefixed page name, so the line to be added would look like^\Q{{ns:User}}\E:[\p{Mn}\x{0300}-\x{036f}]+$ <newaccountonly>. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 02:08, 20 April 2026 (UTC)- For the record, there are a few existing entries using
{{ns:...}}, but none of them are wrapped in\Q/\E. Unless the extension is quoting wikitext parts automatically (I would be very surprised if that was the case), these won't work as expected if the namespace name contains special characters (for example,{{ns:User}}on ptwiki returnsUsuário(a)). This is not directly related to the request at hand, however. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 02:15, 20 April 2026 (UTC)

Added Added. It turns out {{ns:User}} is only necessary when the entry is not newaccountonly. Timelash
.*Timelash.* <newaccountonly>
This username is only ever used by LTAs and according to ToolForge data, all user accounts that have the name "Timelash" are globally locked. There is no need for someone to create a username containing "Timelash" unless THAT person or TA is/wants to be a good faith editor.
For the backstory of the user Timelash, he was an editor active in 2023, who was blocked by NinjaRobotPirate in September 2023. Several pages that Timelash edited were also a silly target for Timelash vandals, thus they have been protected.
The only thing I want is that the username must be blacklisted from the English Wikipedia (and other Wikimedia projects, if possible). There is no such vandal creating Timelash usernames on the Spanish Wikipedia or elsewhere.

- @GZWDer: What does this title mean? Is it a real person's name, an expletive, a derogatory slang term or something like that? If there's nothing special about it, then en:WP:NOSALT applies. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 17:24, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
- This is the name of LTA. It may be name of some person, but I am not sure. GZWDer (talk) 15:50, 25 May 2026 (UTC)
- Declined per en:WP:NOSALT, and also because global blacklisting is unnecessary for single-wiki problems. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 00:08, 28 May 2026 (UTC)

Racist use
.*\bn[il]gger.*
add ! to the alternatives for i, this pattern recently used for a username (see history of my enwiki TP). Probably might as well add j as well. Black Kite (talk) 00:07, 21 May 2026 (UTC)
- There are several entries for "nigger" (could be more, I searched fuzzily for "gg"):
.*n[il]+(?:gg|qq)+(?:a|er).* <newaccountonly>.*\bn[il]gger.* <newaccountonly|antispoof>.*NIGG.*.*n[1jl/\\]gg(a|er).*
- Changed the first to
.*n[il!j]+(?:gg|qq)+(?:a|er).*and the second to.*\bn[ilj]gger.*(the second has antispoof enabled, so adding!won't do anything). NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 10:01, 21 May 2026 (UTC)

Add AccountVanishRequests
.*AccountVanishRequests.* <newaccountonly>
In light of User:AccountVanishRequests has sex with babies1, and that AccountVanishRequests is an administrative role account, I propose the prohibition of creating accounts that include its name. Hopefully this can prevent some abuse. Evidence: enwiki AbuseLog ID 44389191. Least Action (talk) 15:48, 6 June 2026 (UTC)
- Note that the account mentioned seems to be suppressed. But edits can be found with XTools and other stuff. Adding a template here for convenience. .+\.com\.tr
Please remove this from the title blacklist because (1) this was added 10 months ago to prevent spam which may no longer be the case, and (2) it prevents the creation of valid redirects relating to websites with the domain .com.tr, like this and that. If it remains blacklisted (as in spam is still occurring with this domain, or some other reason) then I would prefer the ones I linked to be created as exceptions, as they are where I ran into this problem. Thank you! Some helpful person (talk) 16:04, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- I made the request that lead to the addition of this pattern, though I asked for it to be put in a filter (without explicitly asking for that filter to be set to prevent) rather than the title blacklist. I was looking at these pages at the time:
- Pinging @Codename Noreste , who added the pattern. NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh 20:34, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- @NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh and @Some helpful person: considering the above, I have made the decision to remove the entry. Codename Noreste (talk • contribs) 19:35, 23 June 2026 (UTC)

Issue with April log
The entry ^\p{Mn}+$ is erroneously recorded as ^\p{Mn}$ in the April 2026 log. Please fix this. TTWIDEE (talk) 19:31, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
