Add topicThere are reports that authorization via SMS "obvious[ly]" doesn’t work since April, 2021. And an active phone number is mandatory for each user. How can Wikimedia promote this instant messaging system now? Why the community which made slogans against digital divide a part of the brand doesn’t rally for boycott? - Since recently Telegram does not require an active phone number to register: https://www.livemint.com/technology/apps/telegram-brings-new-update-no-phone-number-needed-for-sign-up-more-features-11670403019183.html . --Base (talk) 15:01, 26 February 2023 (UTC) Reply

There's no telegram group for Hindi Wikipedia team, I recently added the link to this group here. And I invite you all there, so we can know how many Hindi Wikipedians are here, and how much powerful we are. All admins, self/auto-confirmed users and new ones are invited. I saw this link on the page: OpenRefine-Wikimedia but it seems broken and perhaps needs to be removed? Thadguidry (talk) 05:43, 8 August 2024 (UTC) Reply
Ì'm surprised to see how many working groups related to Wikipedia have only conversations running on non-free server technology (that even requires phone numbers) like Telegram, Discord etc. While the official things seem to be outdated and avoided for easy use (like IRC, mailing lists, discussion pages) it seems that free technology for our conversation is missing. One thing that can be self hosted and won't be an island solution is Matrix (which is also used by Mozilla now). However, I also see a misstrust concerning the WMF in having official conversation plattforms (e.g. "they can read our messages" etc.). I proposed a discussion session for Wikimania that was not accepted. So where else is the right place to discuss this? I doubt it is here, many Telegram users fail to see the problem.
