You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Hello, Svartava. I am doubtful about range-blocking because the ranges are way too wide, and doing so will affect many innocent users—there would be far too much collateral damage, unfortunately. Hi Hasley! I went to Lumenasblog's talk to deliver a welcome message with TW and found out he was blocked. He is a new user under the Igbo Wikimedians User Group and after a training session Introduction to Igbo Wikiquote II organised by Ig Wiki Librarians Hub for her old members and new members from the Association of Nigerian Authors, new members were asked to create their userpages so that I can send them a welcome message and for them to understand how WMF works. More information about the event can be found on the event dashboard.

Lumenasblog was part of those that were advised to create their userpages by typing in something brief about themselves and publishing. Hello, Olugold. The user you specify has only two local edits, both of which were creating an user page that can be considered inappropriate, or even promotional, on several projects. This goes against Meta's policies, and is the reason why I blocked him.

I have, however, unblocked the user per this thread—as long as this behaviour stops. Please note that he is also blocked on the English Wikipedia, and, preferably, he should be unblocked there, too. Therefore, I strongly encourage the user to change his username to avoid confusion, as required by policy, and not creating such kind of user pages, as well as 15:26, 13 March 2022 (UTC) Reply

While I do not object to this, user pages are very rarely protected (only autopatrollers can edit others' pages), and talk pages should only be locked if they are abused, but not preemptively. Hi. As you probably know, this LTA regularly creates multiple sockpuppets for disruptive editing and does very problematic things such as their disruptive editing, abusing and writing offensive messages on talk pages of users, removing comments and reports related to them, etc. They've been doing such stuff both logged-in and logged-out. It would be really helpful if this could be prevented by globally locking their IP range(s) so they can't do more disruption or create more accounts. The 2 ranges I know they use/have used are [1] and [2] (already locked), but you could check if you find more. Svartava, we cannot connect named accounts with IP addresses. I offer no comments on that. But regardless of whether those IPs are evading a block or not, if their behaviour is disruptive, they should be blocked only on enwiktionary as they are not being used elsewhere (unlike the above range, that was directly creating a huge mess in lots of projects). Hello, Aviram. Unfortunately, there is little I can do about it — accounts are not globally locked for that reason, and I do not believe that removing oathauth-tester will help in any way. I noticed that at SRG Drummingman has been reporting an LTA that seems to be editing from 2 different IP ranges, however i notice that you never actually globally block either IP range and just the individual IPs. Blaze Wolf, a range block would be impracticable here. Global blocks can be used on IP ranges. But those are very big ranges, and blocking them will not work without causing massive collateral damage. Maybe the subject is my english witch is not perfect. My subjet is about the range 64.140.128.0/20 wich is an awfull open proxy's range (quote 100 in IPQualityScore, wow the first time i see that). A local sysop as blocked it for five years after i asked him. Could you block it globaly ?

As an administrator on nl.wiktionary.org (WikiWoordenboek) I noticed you blocked IP 80.215.172.24. Maybe you could look into IP 80.215.224.111 too. First it triggered filter 181 and then it added a user page, consisting of two irrelevant pictures, in the name of User:Jules*, an administrator on French Wikipedia. Jules* has responded: this is indeed a cross-wiki vandal. The other edit from this IP address was to create a user page for another administrator on French Wikipedia (Bédévore). Risto has been blocked on a number of projects for a range of disruptive behaviour, including personal attacks.
