Nascent scam?

I blanked the Wikimedia Homeschooling which looks very much like a scam, or at least holding out unrealistic expectations of reward.

The IP in question User:38.54.124.170 is within a globally blocked range 38.54.0.0/17, I'm not sure how they are editing at all.

Rich Farmbrough . 22:47 26 February 2025 (UTC).

Looks like a hoax. I've sent it to RFD. Ternera (talk) 03:54, 27 February 2025 (UTC) Reply
@Rich Farmbrough: Re: "[...] not sure how they are editing at all." - Global blocks#Global IP blocks don't automatically apply on Meta-wiki to facilitate unblock requests. (I was confused, too, and had to ask!)
P.s. It looks like something about your custom signature & timestamp is breaking the DiscussionTools "reply" feature, hence people cannot easily 'reply' directly to any of your posts on this wiki (and perhaps elsewhere), and it might be preventing you from getting notifications about replies. cf. Private-window/logged-out screenshot. There are some notes at mw:Help:DiscussionTools/Why can't I reply to this comment? which may help you to fix it, but TLDR: simple or default is better, and I suspect the custom-time-signature (i.e. the missing comma after the time, and the added . after the (UTC)) might be the main cause? Hope that helps. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 23:58, 27 February 2025 (UTC) Reply

Problems regarding Wikipedia account, please read until the end!

For some reason, the moderators have been labeling me as a spammer since 2017, and in 2025, when I decided to post another article on the internet, I was accused of being a puppet account, a spammer, and sending threats via email. But this is all wrong.

First, the IP I was using was none other than the place where we study to create articles; I work with this.

Second: I am not trying to unblock the Wikipedia account, but when I saw that I was listed as a threat via email, it really shook me up.

Third: The supposed puppet account was created so that people other than me could interact with Wikipedia articles, but what happened is that the information backfired.

Fourth: Whoever is an administrator, see what I am asking for, what I am begging for. It is not about unblocking my Wikipedia account, but it is about my personal and professional reputation.

Conclusion: I don't know how Wikipedia articles work, or even what the moderators think, but accusing me of threats by email when I asked them for a (somewhat provocative) conversation ended up affecting my mental health. And this can happen to my professional health. What I'm going to ask for is with total sincerity in the world:

The linked IP is related to a study space of my university friends, so they are not responsible, I ask that you unblock the IP so that I don't have problems in my professional life

Remove the accusation of threats by email that the moderator (Chronos) unfairly placed, I don't intend to send emails to any moderator anymore.

Third, leave my account blocked, but talk to the moderators in a more refined way.

Any wrong decision can worsen my mental health, which now believes that this can cause professional problems, and if that happens, I don't know what I'll do with myself!

Please take a look at this, or give me a second change! Wazzimagiygg (talk) 02:32, 28 February 2025 (UTC) Reply

(Bug) Account creation pages on some wikis redirect to auth.wikimedia.org

  • (1) With a URL like [1]
  • (1-a) I don't think the skin specified in the URL works.
  • (1-b) I feel like the skin selection doesn't work on the page after registration.
  • (2) After registering once, even if I go back to the input form in my browser history and reuse the email address I entered to create an account with a different character notation, an error message appears and it seems like it's difficult to log out. --Mar09 2025 (talk) 09:27, 9 March 2025 (UTC) Reply
Where did you encounter the link in #1 above - it is malformed. — xaosflux Talk 11:48, 9 March 2025 (UTC) Reply
I specified the parameters myself. I think that useskin and returntoquery work correctly on past Wiktionary and on Wikipedia that does not redirect to auth.wikimedia.org.[2] --Mar09 2025 (talk) 10:45, 12 March 2025 (UTC) Reply
Sorry I'm not quite following the problem here. It sounds like when I write a malformed request it doesn't do what I want it to do. Can you provide:
    1. Step by step directions that a user would follow that do not involve manually crafting a uri
    2. What you are expecting the result to be
    3. What the result is you are getting
    Some notes:
    • useskin is not meant to be persistent across links or page loads; to use a persistent skin you must set it in your user preferences.
    • Skin loading on Special:CreateAccount (which is where the links should be sending you, not to Special:Login/signup) is supported, example -- which is not expected to persist after using the page
    • Using "back" to a form you already submitted and trying to POST it again is in general a bad idea on most platforms. Our page workflow shouldn't be attempting to send people that way.

For those not familiar, auth.wikimedia.org is the new centralised login server that all wikis will be switching to in the coming period. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 13:50, 12 March 2025 (UTC) Reply

Persian Wikipedia administrators

[edit ]
Latest comment: 15 days ago 3 comments3 people in discussion

Hello, dear administrators. I know this is not the right place, but I would like to file a complaint against two Persian Wikipedia administrators who are clearly engaging in favoritism and disruptive behavior, and are manipulating the system. I just don't know on which page of English Wikipedia I should submit my complaint?

These two administrators openly support each other, their edits are biased, and they are gaming the system. I'm fed up with them and I demand that their accounts be permanently blocked.

Pause edits until nickname has been changed?

I'm in the process of recovering my username from 10 years ago here - https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Steward_requests/Username_changes#Brisdaz.au and was wondering if I should not start editing until it's done. I think this process of reclaiming my old nickname will take up to two weeks so am I wrong in thinking this? Brisdaz.au (talk) 12:59, 14 March 2025 (UTC) Reply

It is fine to contribute, if the usurp is accepted your current account will just be renamed to your old username. (The old username will be renamed to a placeholder name). — xaosflux Talk 14:32, 14 March 2025 (UTC) Reply

Enable TLS 1.0 and 1.1 for all projects

What do you think? This will allow for compatibility with older browsers. Downgrade attacks won't be an issue as TLS_FALLBACK_SCSV exists. 5.228.114.36 08:36, 16 March 2025 (UTC) Reply

Hello, that is just not going to happen. We can't maintain support for depreciated protocols indefinitely. For some guidance on supported browsers, see mw:Compatibility#Browsers. — xaosflux Talk 12:36, 16 March 2025 (UTC) Reply

An ADL report shows "1) a coordinated campaign to manipulate Wikipedia content related to Israel, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and similar issues, in which a group of editors systematically evade Wikipedia’s rules to shift balanced narratives toward skewed ones, spotlighting criticism of Israel and downplaying Palestinian terrorist violence and antisemitism; and 2) pro-Hamas perspectives informing Arabic-language Wikipedia content on Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict." I am not a current member of the en.wp community, so I will not be involved in any disputes or editing there, but I encourage members of that community to take a look at this report and also for members of ar.wp to consider the points raised in this article. —Justin (koavf) TCM 08:50, 21 March 2025 (UTC) Reply

Bem-vinda, amiga. Are you trying to translate pages here on Meta-Wiki or on Wikipedia? If you are trying to translate a Wikipedia article that is in English, you may want to see w:en:Special:ContentTranslation. Have you seen this tool yet? You can learn more at w:en:Help:Translation. —Justin (koavf) TCM 21:12, 23 March 2025 (UTC) Reply
I am not familiar with Portuguese Wikipedia but looking at your sandbox page w:pt:Usuário(a):DianaEliss/Szejnert de Małgorzata, it seems the best way is get someone with 30 days/500 edits to move the page into the main encyclopedia.
You could ask on w:pt:Wikipédia:Café dos tradutores (or w:pt:Ajuda:Tire suas dúvidas). There, they may also help to review the article and fix the broken references, add a photo etc. Commander Keane (talk) 22:58, 23 March 2025 (UTC) Reply
