About the title blacklist

[edit ]

The attached page is the title blacklist, every title that matches regular expressions (each on a separate line) are disallowed from being create and edit on all Wikimedia wikis, that is global in impact. "#" should be used for comments.

This page consists:

Foo <autoconfirmed|noedit|errmsg=blacklisted-testpage>
B[aá]r #No one should create article about it

Each entry may also contain optional attributes, enclosed in <> and divided by |

  • autoconfirmed — only non-autoconfirmed users are unable to create/upload/move such pages
  • noedit — users are also unable to edit this article
  • casesensitive — don't ignore case when checking title for being blacklisted
  • errmsg — the name of the message that should be displayed instead of standard

Also, you shouldn't add "^" at the beginning of the entry and "$" at the end. They will be added automatically.

Local blacklist

[edit ]

There is no global whitelist.

Global vs. local blacklists

[edit ]

As usernames are part of Single Unified Login the ability to blacklist these is held centrally at MetaWiki; so local additions will not work for preventing the creation of accounts of matching usernames.

Whereas the local or global title blacklist will both prevent the creation of pages that match the regular expressions, though local entries will only affect the wiki where the entry is in the local blacklist.

Logging

[edit ]

To note that there is no public log available for hits on local or global title blacklists that can be reviewed by any advanced rights holders (per local rights or global rights), so essentially the consequences of this list will go unsighted. Accordingly, the process for addition of new entries is rigorous to get a regular expression added.

Consensus

[edit ]

With the predominant use of English, the list built here is well-established for English language abuse. Many other languages have a suitable level of suitable regular expressions, though the list will always be under review. To make further additions, it is preferred that a community reaches a consensus on proposed additions at their local pages, and then puts forward their recommendations. It is hoped that the potential for false positives has been considered as part of the local discussion.
