Welcome to Wikimedia Foundation Funds!

The Wikimedia Foundation supports individuals and organizations around the world to increase the diversity, reach, quality, and quantity of free knowledge. We promote knowledge equity aligned with the strategic direction of the Wikimedia movement. Our funding programs are focused on decentralized decision-making, regional committees, and reaching underrepresented communities.

Our people-centred approach is built on the principles of equity & empowerment, collaboration & cooperation, and the promotion of innovation and learning. We have several funding programs which support individuals and organizations: Wikimedia Community Fund (Rapid Fund and General Support Fund), Conference & Event Fund, Wikimedia Research Fund, and Wikimedia Hub Fund.

Wikimedia Community Fund

The Community Fund is a unified program with flexible support and funding for Wikimedians working on knowledge equity aligned with the Movement’s Strategic direction.

Rapid Fund

Funds short-term, low-cost projects by Wikimedia community members – individuals, groups, affiliates, or organizations contributing to Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia or Commons – to organize projects throughout the year.

Flexible general operating support for individuals, groups, or affiliates that have developed larger projects or programs or a strategic plan that requires sustained investment over time to be able to achieve its goals.

The Wikimedia Community Funds are supported by the Community Resources and Partnerships team. Our team provides consistent regional support and contributes to the establishment of a learning mindset.

Conference & Event Fund

Funding and planning support to groups, individuals or organizations to organize local, regional, and thematic conferences that bring together Wikimedians for experience sharing, skill building, and networking.
3 months processing time; average funding amount: 10,000 - 90,000 USD

Wikimedia Research Fund

The Research Fund provides support to individuals, groups, and organizations with research interests on or about Wikimedia projects.
