Partnerships with international organizations

[edit ]

The Thematic hub is investing more resources in developing high value content partnerships with intergovernmental organizations (IGOs), such as UN agencies, as well as international non-governmental organizations (INGOs). These organizations have an enormous amount of high impact knowledge and content from all across the world, in many languages and valuable expertise – that so far has been underutilized in the Wikimedia movement as these partnerships do not fit neatly into traditional responsibilities.

Currently, the main focus is on content covering three topic areas: gender, climate change and biodiversity, and health. The three areas have been chosen based on the importance of sharing high quality knowledge in the areas, that all UN agencies are expected to have content in the areas from different perspectives and that there are active volunteers to work on the material.

Collaborate with us

[edit ]

We want to cooperate globally with Wikimedia organizations and individuals to develop and support partnerships with international organizations and their local offices. This includes international initiatives, such as WikiGap. We are also receiving many requests for Wikimedian in residence (WiR) positions. We are currently developing a learning program for WiR, and would love to discuss this with IGOs and INGOs. There are of course many more opportunities which we are open to discuss.

Having formal partnerships supports other Wikimedia organizations and community members to work with the organization. We are exploring how the movement can work together with international organizations. The success of partnerships depends on connections, trust and the success of collaborations e.g how widely content is being used across Wikimedia platforms.

There are many kinds of work that can be done with international organizations. If you work for an organization and are interested in sharing your content on Wikipedia we would love to hear from you partnerships(_AT_)wikimedia(_DOT_)se .
