Enabling support of Publishing Translations on Central Notice
Hi all, as part of our work to support Central Notice Admins (see blog post earlier in the year), we identified a challenge: only Central Notice Admins can approve translations of Central Notice Banners. This creates several problems, including delay in translations getting published, and Central Notice Admins approving the translation without language knowledge about the specific translations. This leads to a lot of work for the very thin group of Central Admins.
After a long discussion on a Phabricator ticket, and internal security review, we are considering adding that right to publish translations of strings on Central Notice for both the Translate Admins and Meta Wiki Admin user groups. List of requirements
I would consider changing the list to:
- Demonstrate cross-wiki experience (e.g. have at least 3k edits across your home project, Meta, and at least one other project).
- Have a user page on Meta.
- Have a valid contact address (either a confirmed email address in preferences, or a valid email address on the user page).
- Be an active contributor on Meta (this is a subjective, not objective, measure; there is no official edit-count).
- Preferably add {{#babel}} to your user page, given the multilingual nature of Meta.
This is because some users might have a lower threshold of what they consider "cross-wiki" experience. Little effort is required to be a participant of multiple projects for two months since Wikimedia is not compulsory; users do not have to put more effort than they want. However, concerning edit count would encourage users to demonstrate sufficient experience to reduce the likelihood of the RfA being ill-considered.
