Event talk:WikiProject Organized Labour Month Online Campaign
Add topicHi @Shushugah and Femke: I added the links for the French Wikipedia, Wiktionary and Wikisource edit-a-thons. I hope that’s ok! Lepticed7 (talk) 19:32, 4 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- That's fantastic :). Are you proposing watchlist notices there? Or would you like to gain consensus for a central banner? Shushugah has asked for a watchlist notice for enwiki, but I now believe we might gain consensus for the bigger banner as well. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 19:41, 4 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- I don’t know yet. I created the pages for now, and I will talk to my fellow wikimedians to settle what to do next Lepticed7 (talk) 19:56, 4 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Very cool! I have also interlanguage linked the Dutch, French, English and Meta pages together. All of the project pages should also outline where they did outreach so we can get a sense of how big this event will be and how we can coordinate some outreach together using translated central banners or something else. Worth also mentioning there is discussion to have a labor theme on the main space home page, for example with features articles, in the news etc Shushugah (talk) 22:09, 4 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- @Lepticed7 I added some French articles to our worklist: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Event:WikiProject_Organized_Labour_Month_Online_Campaign/Worklist -- would be happy to add more if that helps for recruiting, Sadads (talk) 21:03, 10 August 2026 (UTC) Reply

I think you should use https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/ to track participation. You can give it a list of participants and a list of articles, and it will track everything for you. It can even be retroactive, so if someone works all month but doesn't sign up until the last day, all of their contributions during the event time period are counted. Organizers can add people, or they can sign up themselves. See https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikipedia/WikiProject_Medicine_reference_campaign_2023/home for one example. - That isn't a bad idea. Would you be able to set it up? Or can only organisers do that? And can it simply be linked to the participants that have already signed up (don't want to add a layer of bureaucracy for participants). On that note, can you add me as an organiser, Shushugah? —Femke 🐦 (talk) 06:30, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- I added and linked outreachdashboard which automatically will add public registrants from the event, so we get this for free, in order for you to be an event organiser of the Meta event, you need event organiser permission, which I see you have now requested. Shushugah (talk) 11:18, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- The link didn't work for me. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:15, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- For me, it works when I log in, but not otherwise. It might be because signups are semi-anonymous? Not sure if the dashboard works for non-organisers that are logged in. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 20:16, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- I made the outreach dashboard private except for event organisers. I can make it public but I want to encourage people only to register using the CampaignEvent registration interface as that automatically links the users to the Dashboard automatically. I think the dashboard will over track edits so in of itself it’s not a 100% reliable tracker of edits but from it we can have an overview of excess of edits Shushugah (talk) 21:41, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply

Might be worth doing a m:MassMessage re this, it'd also inform other projects of what's happening, cos atm it's mostly just enwiki Kowal2701 (talk) 14:38, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Completely agreed! Femke and I are also exploring a CentralBanner, but may end up doing multiple options. We should in any case add an outreach section to make it visible what existing/planned outreach there is. Shushugah (talk) 15:19, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- sorry, should've been clearer, I mean a MassMessage to wikis' Village Pumps like now/soon so other wikis can join and prepare if they want Kowal2701 (talk) 15:21, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Yes understood! We have plans at the moment for MassMessage all the signers of en:WP:WWUS and the signers of Wiki Workers United petitions (need admin on Meta for the latter) which is 1300-2600 depending on overlap. We also will enable mw:Help:Extension:CampaignEvents/Registration/Worklist to auto-notify anyone editing across different wikis if they publish an edit in a relevant article.
- Femke and I have contacted 10+ WikiProjects and it would be very much appreciated if you joined the outreach! French, Dutch, Serbo-Croatian Wikis also need outreach.
- What other places could you reach or handle? For the CentralBanner on enwiki it will take 1-2 weeks so we’ll see on that. CC’ing @Femke @Sadads who are doing outreach as well Shushugah (talk) 16:38, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- That's great, tbh it sounds like you've got all bases covered, but I can request the MassMessage to Distribution list/Global message delivery (will run the wording by you). I see you've done the WikiProjects at wikidata:Q15885004 (there's also Wiki99/Organized Labour you did a while back), it's probably easiest to go through wikidata:Q5492333 for the closest match on each wiki Kowal2701 (talk) 17:03, 8 August 2026 (UTC) Reply

- "Edit-a-thon" is an Americanism that is particularly difficult to translate. I believe that the preferred options are "editing event" or "editing party".
- You all might want to look at Program guides/Edit-a-thons for general advice. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:08, 11 August 2026 (UTC) Reply

@Ladsgroup @Vipz when do you think you will create Farsi / Serbia-Croatian language pages? That's incredibly exciting that so many languages will be participating in WikiProject Organized Labour! Shushugah (talk) 18:41, 10 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- I need a week or so, I'm also asking IWUG to see if I can get some resources (like designing a poster, similar to File:WikiLovesIranLogo.pdf) and advertising in IWUG's social media too. Amir (talk) 23:11, 10 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- For some reason, this ping did not give me a notification; I am, however, actively following the event. Serbo-Croatian language pages shall be set up within a week or so, max. We're a community with a modest editing activity, but I will try my best to make it as successful as possible. I'll see about encouraging Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian communities to join as well. I wish y'all have a wonderful evening. – Vipz (talk) 18:10, 11 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- @Shushugah I have created the page in Persian Wikipedia. We will advertise this more broadly (social media, village pumps, etc.) once we get closer to the event. Amir (talk) 22:08, 11 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- Welp, I created the list of articles to work on and people are excited and already made some of them Amir (talk) 19:33, 13 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
I'm submitting a request for Central Notice banner for the campaign, to start from August 25. I've never done this before, but these banner require consensus if they're new. At enwiki, we've got consensus at the village pump. For all the people organising in different languages, could you let me know if your community also wants to have the central banner? @Ladsgroup, @Vipz, @AnnikaHendriksen and @Lepticed7.
For now, I'm adding all joined Wikipedias, fr wikisource and fr wiktionary in the request, but not Commons, as I think it would be more difficult for a random Commons user to join the campaign (difficult to go out to a protest and take random pictures, compared to monuments that tend to be there every day). —Femke 🐦 (talk) 20:21, 11 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- For Persian Wikipedia, I don't think CN would be a good idea because we are having women in red until end of August (We couldn't do it in February/March due to internet shutdown in Iran) and I want to avoid banner fatigue. Amir (talk) 20:50, 11 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- I've taken Persian off the request. Women in Red on enwiki were quite keen on contributing, so maybe a possible focus for the WiR event in Persian too? —Femke 🐦 (talk) 20:54, 11 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
- If have some list of women active in this field. Definitely. Is there anyone from this list standing out to you? Amir (talk) 22:09, 11 August 2026 (UTC) Reply
