From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

WikiAfrica in South Africa has developed a series of initiatives promoted in the frame of WikiAfrica by lettera27 Foundation and the Africa Centre and several of the initiatives in collaboration with Wikimedia South Africa. In 2011 the Africa Centre becomes promoter of WikiAfrica.

In the frame of Share Your Knowledge: Creative Commons and Wikipedia for Cultural Institutions a series of institutions have been involved to release content related to Africa and contribute to WikiAfrica.

Content on the Wikimedia projects

WikiAfrica has collected information about public art in Johannesburg within the project Mobile Access to Knowledge: Culture and Safety in Africa. Documenting and assessing the impact of cultural events and public art on urban safety, a comparative international research project which is releasing all its background documentation under Creative Commons attribution share-alike and it is uploading its documentation on the Wikimedia projects.
