Community Wishlist Survey 2023/Larger suggestions/Re-use citation with different page number in VisualEditor: Difference between revisions

• Problem: Often you want to cite a book or report multiple times, but citing different page numbers. In Visual Editor, you now have to create these citations separately; it's not possible to reuse a citation, and change the page number only in the new location.
• Proposed solution: A possible solution would be to add a check box in the re-use tab of "cite" if you want to change page number, which would give you a deep copy of the citation.
• Who would benefit: editors using VE

@Femke It looks like they declined that wish as it was too complicated. This makes me believe it's probably too much work for Community Tech as well. At the discretion of the Editing team, we're happy to see this proposal through voting here in this category. If they also feel it is too big, it may be better fit for Larger suggestions. Ah, I see! Thank you for clarifying. Given the scope of the project, I still think this may belong in Larger suggestions. It sounds like WMDE is willing to make it a "focus area", which I presume means they will devote significant time to it. Moving it to Larger suggestions will see it through voting and give their team the reassurance of the desires for this functionality beyond just German-speaking communities. Community Tech can assist as needed, but I think judging by WMDE's assessment, it wouldn't make sense for us to wholly commit to it.
