Advice/Resources for Upgrading from D6 to D7?

Posted by jessSchn on August 2, 2012 at 5:43pm

Hi Everyone,

Currently I work with three Drupal 6 websites and I'm trying to find a guide or any advice on the best way to upgrade these sites to Drupal 7. These sites are module heavy and there is a process setup that imports customer and product information into the drupal database.

To my understanding, there isn't a very easy way to do this. I'm hoping I don't have to go through just setting up brand new sites - please tell me there is a way to transfer information.

Also, do any of you out there do contract work?

Alternative "no down time" workflow for upgrading Drupal or modules

Posted by charles belov on January 30, 2012 at 10:00pm

I manage a public transportation website that is accessed 24 hours a day. Also, as a government agency, we are trying to minimize overtime, so late-hour maintenance is problematic. It is not feasible for me to take the website down in order to make upgrades. I would like to vet the proposed upgrade workflow with the Drupal community:

  1. Rather than taking the site off-line, take only updates off-line. Only the administrator doing the update could sign on.

Migration Issues

Posted by davidfells81@gm... on April 29, 2010 at 5:13am

I recently migrated from a very poor low cost web host to a VPS with a quality host. This is officially the first time I have run into anything nightmarish with migrating a Drupal site. After getting the files and database migrated and the config updated, I pulled up the site and was pleased - I was able to see the site. Not only that, I could log in. All the "public" aspects of the site are perfect.

A critical look at the implementation of Plugin Manager - Underlying issues and possible solutions

Posted by adrian on July 27, 2009 at 10:34pm

I have been harboring some growing concerns about the direction of the plugin manager integration proposals for Drupal core almost since their inception, but have not been able to make an informed opinion on the subject until I had properly reviewed the proposed system on a much deeper scale.

While my impressions of the project and the current implementation are fairly negative, I have aimed to frame my criticisms in a positive constructive manner because I believe that the goals of the project are worthwhile, and that for a large section of users this could be a very flexible and usable solution.

Unfortunately a lot of my concerns have been well founded, and I believe that the implementation of this system needs to be taken in a different direction for it to be able to succeed in its goals, while not negatively affecting projects like Aegir, Open Atrium and many other ‘serious developers’.

Site Maintenance - Core Update/Upgrade mode

Posted by tsvenson on February 27, 2009 at 3:53pm

I have just finished my first updates of Drupal and it went very smooth.

The only thing that was a bit annoying was the part about disabling and enabling non core modules. I had to go over the list four times, when disabling, as dependencies blocked disabling some modules until other modules had been disabled.

This got me to think that there must be an easier way to do this. What I came up with is, in my view, both a simple and elegant solution.

Simply add a "Drupal Core Upgrade/Update" option in the Site Maintenance configuration.

Weird: New Image Gallery Vocabulary shows up after upgrade --- After upgrade from 4.7 to 5.0

Posted by Aleet on September 18, 2008 at 5:00pm

Hello,

My upgrade from 4.7 to 5.0 went awry when I noticed none of the dozen or so image galleries show up anymore: http://projectharambee.org/help_africa_aid/image

Upon checking the Categories page, I realized the system had created a new and i

The new vocab doesn't contain any terms.

But the category either stays or returns on its own moments later.

Is the solution deleting the category in database ? How ?

And if I'm successful, would system start recognizing the old new image galleries category?
