Using OpenLayers Geocoder to auto-fill-in address fields

Posted by rootwork on February 9, 2011 at 9:25pm

Hi, all. I've just started playing around with the OpenLayers Geocoder module to input locations, and one of its features is auto-filling-in address fields. You can read more about that in the announcement of OpenLayers.

Currently, however, OpenLayers Geocoder won't auto-fill-in address fields located in either location.module (#1030432) or addresses.module (#910308).

Addresses 2.x Development - Geonames requirement

Posted by codycraven on April 18, 2010 at 7:48am

I am currently rebuilding Addresses for a 2.x release. As part of this I want to get away from using static country/province files as they easily go out of date and do not provide extensibility in data.

I am planning to overcome this hurdle by making Geonames a dependency of Addresses for 2.x. I know the licensing may not be ideal as it would require non-commercial users to provide links to Geonames, however I would rather have quality at a cost than garbage for free.

Getting directions

Posted by Jorge Campo on September 11, 2009 at 11:57am

I noticed that it is possible to add a link to every location with a "get directions" which links to google maps webpage.
It is nice since, it adds point "b" automatically (the location you are checking in drupal) to the google maps webpage and you only need to add your own address in order to get directions.
How is this done?

New Social Networking book out now for Drupal 6

Posted by Mr-Fabulous on May 7, 2009 at 11:08am

I'm currently using a recently published book entitled, 'Drupal 6 - Social Networking' as a guide for building a social network site. The following are excerpts from the book from the publishers, Packt Publishing. See: www.packtpub.com. I should say that the publishers, Packt Publishing, part sponsored the recent DrupalNGo Camp and sprint in Galway and asked if I would post some excerpts from their book.

Drupal 6 Social Networking: Communicating with Users

Our users can communicate with one another, which is great, but quite often as an administrator the need may arise for us to communicate with a user or users on our site. It may be to remind them about the web site or to inform active users about new changes to the site, which they may not have been made aware of.

This article is extracted from the "Drupal 6 Social Networking" book. In this article, you will learn:

  • About mailing lists, and how to use them with our Drupal social network
  • How to use an offline approach for contacting our users
  • How to use blocks of content to get a message across to your users
