A Cry For Maps Help

Posted by Paula Wynne on June 8, 2012 at 6:05am

Hi there

Can anyone suggest any ideas or options for speed performance enhancement on some new developments we uploaded this week on iHubbub.

The site has been been rebuild from scratch on a new updated commons platform with no panels [which slowed the old site down] and only necessary modules, but now .... with the new maps and pins feature it is far too slow [!] with the maps script and pin data but as this is now a vital hub of the site, we need to get this fixed asap.

Driving a large Google Maps Web Gis with Drupal ... to make it Web Gis 2.0

Posted by itamair on January 19, 2012 at 8:20pm

It was a matter of calling Drupal bootstrap from outside it, carefully setting ups db_queries and taking advantage and proper use of entities fields' properties by EntityQueryField.
The rough backend geodata in Drupal might be managed in different ways and modules (Geofield, Geolocation, Getlocation, whatever ... ) ... but the way it's shown in the front end is just a matter of html, javascript/jquery & json creativity ...

Feeds module was the biggest help for the migration of data from the original mysql db.

And now it works, and it works great ... also with a lot of (demo) data.

Building the ultimate street address management system and geocoding module for Drupal 7

Posted by Adam S on March 24, 2011 at 7:33pm

There are several modules in Drupal 6 that manage addresses, geocoding and geospatial points. I would like to see a discussion about them and their better parts to base the construction of an address management system in Drupal 7. I am pulling comments I made in the Address Field module for Drupal 7 module issue queue as I originally wanted to express the ideas here in the the Geolocation Group to make them available to a wider audience. The original thread is at http://drupal.org/node/1093392#comment-4256540.

No Google Maps API sessions at DrupalCon Copenhagen or any DrupalCon at all?

Posted by tinem on July 23, 2010 at 4:45pm

Sad to read that there will be NO sessions about this subject http://cph2010.drupal.org/news/initial-program. I had really hoped someone would have made such but I think it's because that there still not is any map module that really do the job. A lot of you have been struggling to make such modules and I wish I were good enough understanding Drupal and PHP to make such too but I'm not (at the moment). :-(

That's why I have made my site without any map module and it's functioning great but don't know if I will get any problems in the future but hope not?

Want to se something cool with Google Maps StreetView? :-)

Posted by tinem on April 14, 2010 at 11:49am

Try to select any toilet from København http://www.tinemuller.dk/test_drupal/node/6 and click on the link from InfoWindow Google Maps StreetView and then you will get directly to the toiletbuilding og from here you can choose Ruteplan, send link, see other photos an so.

Then try after this to click on the link from InfoWindow "here" and you will see more info about the toilet and also a link to the same StreetView.

I used most of the weekend at making this and I think it's really cool if I'm permitted to say so. :-)

ONE Google Map showing the hole worlds Drupalcon addresses

Posted by tinem on November 23, 2009 at 3:05pm

I would gladly make such a map and will ask you what you think about this idea? I'm not sure this is the correct place to make this subject but couldn't find a site where ALL the Drupalcon were mentioned.

A test site can be seen here http://www.tinemuller.dk/drupalcon/map/ and only the first name is for Drupal the two other links are for libraries. :-)

Click the link and from the InfoWindow click Cartrip and you will see that in the dropdown menu the address and coordinates are here for San Francisco. You could also read the english help instructions.

Google Map API key on multisites

Posted by dunx on August 22, 2009 at 8:02pm

Greetings,

I'm developing locally (with my /etc/hosts tweaked to point 3 domains at localhost), which are configured using the Domain module to all use the same code and database (as opposed to a true multi-site).

Adding a New Feature: Lines and Areas on Maps?

Posted by tom_o_t on February 19, 2008 at 9:49pm

I'd like to allow people to add lines (e.g. bike paths, walking routes) and areas (e.g. parks, forests, polluted areas) and have these display alongside points using gmap_views.

I've had a look around the Location and Mapping group discussion, the GMap issue queue, the various other mapping modules (GMap Addons, Geo, GeoBrowser, OpenLayers) and haven't found any development being done on this.

Google Maps API now does UK geocoding - yay!

Posted by danaktivix on July 10, 2007 at 5:00am

From the UK MySociety maps list:

The Google geocoder in the Maps API now officially works for UK addresses. It was enabled briefly last November, but that was due to a mistake on Google's part. Presumably they've somehow obtained a license to use it in this way. There's an official Google blog post (with a demonstrator) at:

http://googlemapsapi.blogspot.com/2007/07/uk-geocoding-now-available-in-...

Bert.

Yay! This is going to make my life / others in the UK's lives / a lot easier.

gmap polygon drawing

Posted by sime on August 14, 2006 at 3:18am

I'm looking for some speculation and setting-straight. If you look at the links below, you see that the developer has used the Google Maps API to mark a polygon.

More info: http://www.holovaty.com/blog/archive/2005/05/31/0225

I understand from the README that this is not currently built into gmap. Have I got this right?
Thanks
