Ubuntu Edge Indiegogo Campaign

Posted by technocrat on July 26, 2013 at 5:33pm

Hey Everyone,

Canonical, the makers of Ubuntu, have started an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign for a highly innovative, leading edge technology phone called the Ubuntu Edge. Here's the link.

http://igg.me/at/ubuntuedge/x/3562668

It'll be a converged device that will act as a PC with Ubuntu OS when connected to a monitor/keyboard. It'll cost 830ドル dollars but there are still lower priced perks still available.

Barracuda upgrading between OS releases, do-release-upgrade

Posted by Synchro on July 24, 2013 at 10:27am

I've got some servers that are running Ubuntu Natty 11.04. This release is no longer supported and its repos have been taken offline (i.e. aptitude full-upgrade can do nothing), however, I've got update-manager-core installed and do-release-upgrade is offering to upgrade to Oneiric. Oneiric is also EOL, but its repos are still available so I do have a path to an LTS release.

Nginx config can not get the rewrite right on EC2. Message "The requested page "/" could not be found."

Posted by dutgriff33 on February 26, 2013 at 2:29pm

I have been working on this for a few days now and I can not get it to work. I am having the same error after every install on my amazon EC2. I have done the exact steps as on my local machine and it will not work for me on my EC2 server. I am getting to the end of the installation right after it asks for the databases info and it goes to a page saying "Page not found. The requested page "/" could not be found." this is being displayed in the Drupal default theme so it is working. If you are reading this before I get it fixed check out dutgriff.com to see what it is displaying.

Drupal speed-up for development environment

Posted by lex0r on January 29, 2013 at 8:33pm

Why?

The first idea that came to my mind when I first ran cache clear that lasted a minute or so, was "I want it run quicker!". If you are those unhappy guys who don't have an SSD, but do have a bit of RAM - you may find this discussion interesting and useful.

Multisite with static fixed local IP

Posted by kabeza on September 21, 2012 at 12:40pm

Hi

I've installed Drupal mainly for its multisite support. I must develop a project where I'll need to administer up to 40 sites using one drupal installation

For temporarily testing, I've configured an Ubuntu 11.10 server with lamp/webmin.

My problem is that every drupal multisite tutorial talks about apache virtualhosts with domains, but I can't use this stuff in this LAN (as far i know).

My PC and the server are behind a proxy, and both have static local IPs.

Drupal is located at http://10.x.x.150/drupal

Getting PHP-FPM to talk to syslog on Ubuntu

Posted by Torenware on June 14, 2012 at 12:57am

I'm working on a couple of applications that will deploy on EC2, and we're having a hell of a time getting error output (calls to error_log(), php errors, etc.) sent to anything but a text error log.

Any ideas as to what the issue is here? Is this even possible right now with php5-fpm and nginx????

Here's what I've tried.

Going to a text log is easy enough if we put

error_log = /some/damn/path/error.log

into a pool configuration for php5-fpm on Ubuntu (11.10 at the moment).

So if I do

Free Lullabot videos on setting up local Drupal web server on OS X, Windows, and Ubuntu

Posted by laken on March 12, 2012 at 4:04pm

A frequent topic in our Drupal classes and meetups is 'how do I work on my Drupal site on my own computer?' Sometimes you want to work on a site locally, before you've chosen a web host provider, or because you're just trying out some new techniques. Local development can be faster and more convenient than remote development, and once you've got a local toolkit together you can really fly with it.

A few months ago we had a Drupal 'installfest' meetup where we helped folks get Drupal installed on their own computers, and we'll cover it in our upcoming Drupal in Depth class. But Lullabot just posted a free video series designed to get you up and running with your local Drupal environment, whether you're on Mac OS X, Windows, or Ubuntu Linux.

So check out Three Local Web Servers videos from the inimitable expatriate and longtime Drupal training star Addi Berry.

Help required - moving drupal site off server to localhost on Linux laptop

Posted by eili on January 7, 2012 at 1:34pm

Hi all, I'm a drupal newbie and not super technical. Working as a part-time web assistant in Manchester and the role is requiring more technical knowledge than I have so would really appreciate some help! Basically the organisations current site has been recently migrated to Drupal and is installed on an old server which is unable to cope with the current basic and user-unfriendly site we have, not to mention the additional functionality I want to install with new modules and themes (lots of other stuff living on the server aswell).
