Backend Basics: Setting up Drupal on your server, backing up, and managing files

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

So you've played around with some Drupal and are ready to put a site online. How should you host it? What do you need to know to get it set up? How will you keep it up to date and safely backed up?

This session will cover the basics of local development environments, domain names, hosting, the command line, MYSQL dumps and uploads, cron, Drush, backing up, and revision control. After this session you should have an idea of what it takes to get your site live...and keep it from being dead!

This session should be before the GIT one because people in this session might then be interested in learning GIT revision control. And also before the Drush session.

That is a very interesting session. It would be very informative for start-ups and non-profits who run on a tight budget.

Wow! Another winner for a beginner.

Great idea. I was thinking of proposing a similar session. This is something that's always been missing from the Intro to Drupal session in previous years, and I'd been thinking of proposing a similar session this time. I'd be happy to co-present if you want.

Yeah, that would be awesome!

Yeah, that would be awesome! There is not much in the way of formal method to this, so I'm sure everyone has different methods.
