Using barcode for activity check in

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi All,
Christefano suggested I cross post this:

I am working on a site for a gym and they have a request for using member barcodes as a checkin for classes. I seem to run across Commerce Barcode, but I am not sure if that is the correct usage of the module since there is not a product involved. They would like to collect which members are checking in for a class. Individual barcode scanners may be an option, but I would like to know if something like this has been done with a mobile divide. This process is a reach for me, as I have not used mobile application before, but I am hoping that that someone in the community has. Any direction would be helpful :)

Apparently there has been some discussion around this topic in the GLAD group.

Thank you

This was just discussed at last night's coworking summit. I believe that project uses RFID and not a barcode, but I'll send a copy of this over to Lee, who was at the summit and can speak more about it.

Meanwhile, is this the barcode module?

Yes

That is the barcode scanner module. My search led me to this because the client currently assigns a keychain barcode to each of their new members, so the barcode is already in place but it is used by a different software product.
