Reno Drupal Group May Meetup - Truckee?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello!

April's meetup at Reno Collective was excellent. It was great to meet some Drupal users in our area.

I believe there's a tentative plan to meet April 10, which needs to be fleshed out, but I'm writing here about the May meeting.

The Lift, a co-working space in Truckee, has offered to host our May 8 meetup. I would need to confirm with them to reserve the space, so I'm wondering who would be interested in attending. 6-8 p.m.? 7-9 p.m.?

We would need to sort out a topic and/or speaker, as well.

Renee

Put me down as tentative.

Put me down as tentative. Any Reno attendees want to rideshare? We can meet at W. McCarran, Robb or even Verdi by Cabelas.

Grrr.....sorry about the double post. Nothing was happening so I clicked again.

I will make it on April 10th

What are the topics? I am totally into ridesharing, I'm in North West Reno. I have an electric car, it should make it there and back. Is there a plug I can tap into at the Lift?

Topic I would like to see are display suite, developing custom modules with feature, and the perils of reactive design theming (css) in drupal.

I can't speak on any of these, but perhaps a round table discussion on one or more of the topics.

Greg - All interesting ideas

Greg - All interesting ideas for topics.

Since our last meeting, I have done some reading and experimenting with Features module. At first I was not very impressed, but like most things Drupal, I think that as I learn to conceptualize the possibilities my acceptance grows. I now see how Features is much more than just a dependency checker and installer. This is a great topic for developers and module builders and I look forward to this discussion.

Can you expand on what you meant by reactive design theming? Maybe I am just behind on terminology. Are you using the word reactive as a synonym for responsive or are the two considered different forms of design??

I may not have the correct

I may not have the correct terminology as well... By reactive, I mean that the theme will automatically react to the users browser size (e.g. iPhone vs iPad vs computer screen) and change to fit the screen. There are many site out there based on a Zen subtheme that includes HTML 5 and being reactive to the browsing device.

Just a neat way to explore CSS and best practices for how to make a site look good on any device.

April 10th Meeting Location

Posted by ledbelly2142 on April 8, 2014 at 5:35pm

Hello all,
I may have been confused on where we were planning to have the Drupal Meetup on April 10th.

For some reason, I thought we would have the April meeting in Truckee, I think I was wrong. We are set for a Drupal Meetup at the Reno Collective at 6PM on April 10th. Unless I am mistaken and am totally off about April 10th location (so please correct me if I am wrong).

We can meet at the Reno collective, there will be a WordPress meetup at the same time, we will be in the same conference room as last time.

Please let me know how many plan to be there.

Cheers,
Greg

Count me in!

I thought it was Truckee as well, but re-reading Renee's post above shows that she clearly states May. I confused the issue further when I asked who wanted to ride-share. Doh!

So the Reno Collective it is on Thursday.

Bullet proofing your dev environments...

...without adding unnecessary complications.

Potential topic for future DUG meetings. Most of us don't work in teams larger than 1 or 2, but setting up a project for team development leaves that option open should you want to expand. Anyone care to weigh in here??

This link is a manifesto of sorts on setting up dev environments. An interesting read.

Great idea - Truckee meetup in May?

Posted by renenee on April 21, 2014 at 5:50pm

I like that topic idea a lot, especially for those of us who work on small teams or solo.

I would like to get a head-count to see who will be interested in a Truckee meetup on Thursday, May 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m. If there's enough interest, I will need to reserve the space ASAP.

Thank you!

for the Truckee meetup. Please make sure you supply the address and maybe some basic directions if there are any intricacies to finding or accessing the meeting location.

Hello,

I just wanted to follow up to see if there's any feedback for topics for May's meetup in Truckee.

I'm not sure if the dev environment expansion topic was discussed last month? I would be interested in that. Another option would be responsive design, on which I'm happy to lead a discussion if there's enough interest.

Responsive design sounds good. So does discussing how folks work in Drupal project team environments.

A good middle ground may be to discuss responsive design and include discussion points on the area of working in a team, e.g. how is the design and testing process (responsive design) different working as an individual vs a team. And what tools might help with communication and workflow.

Both topics are interesting.

Both topics are interesting. I would be interested in chatting about dev environments and continue to get a feel for what different folks have setup and working. I am especially interested in group dev environments. What tools, modules and apps are used when the project goes from 1 or 2 to an entire group of people working on the same project??
