More groups fixups - self serve for bakery synching!

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
Posted by greggles on November 19, 2009 at 12:24am

The last few weeks have been busy for groups.drupal.org maintenance and the work came to a head today. As always, if you notice any problems please report them (here or in irc or via the infrastructure queue).

All synch requests completed (but not all accounts synched)

With help from Michelle and the normal g.d.o admins we were able to synch all the accounts that had requested a synch the proper way. But, there's still thousands more who need help.

Bakery has better help messages and self serve!

The Bakery module now has a self serve mechanism thanks to work by bdragon and a review from Josh K. This took a lot of work and it's great to have.

If you are having trouble logging in, you should now be able to fix it yourself!

I also added a nice link from the profile page to the users profile page on the master site, so that spam fighters can block them on the parent site (that's how you're supposed to do it, by the way). And there is some help text to let people know that they must edit name, mail, password on the parent site, not the local site.

Views update, "unread" is truly unread!

If you are one of those folks who uses the unread tab to keep track of content you'll be pleased to find that it is actually unread content now. Imagine that! Thanks to Earl for adding that filter back to Views 6.x-2.7.

Next steps

There's another patch I'd love to get lose on the site to make Bakery work with page caching turned on. We should probably also install the Usermerge module so that people who had multiple accounts in the past can merge them together, but that module needs a little more review. There's also some discussion afoot to get better mapping on groups.drupal.org. And Steve has been hard at work bringing back the e-mail headers that folks have missed so much.

Want to see more features on the site? Sure! Let's brainstorm and start fixing the I also created a tag called gdo love for issues that will help improve this site, so feel free to use that to help people keep track of what you want to work on.

Nice but I forgot the g.d.o password

Posted by kirchhoffhas2 on November 19, 2009 at 12:54am

As per my synch request I tried using the diy repair. But I suppose since my d.o email differs from the one I have here, which I cant remember whch it is it asked for a password. But i forgot the password.

Can you guys and gals help me getting this sorted out?

Thank you,

PS: Unrelated to the issue at hand, but quite annoying, comment preview isn't working yet :(

manually fixed

Posted by greggles on November 19, 2009 at 4:20am

I manually fixed your account just now (it had been skipped over because we managed which items were still active by having 0 comments on them so when you commented you removed it from the queue...it's a obviously and imperfect system but it's lightweight enough to be right). We'll have to see about the comment preview - it seems to be gone but I'm not sure if that was disabled for a reason.

Obrigado

Thanks a lot Greg. Also I extend my gratitude to the other members of the g.d.o infrastructure team.
Obrigado for your hard work on always striving to improve the community.

Thanks for your efforts

I want to thank-you for your work towards making Drupal.org better. It's greatly appreciated, and will help a lot in the implementing the drupal.org redesign.

Kieran

Thanks!

Recently I've been a bit less involved in Drupal community... but I also wanted to also thank everyone involved for for volunteering your time & skills. I'm sure you hear it when things aren't perfect, but thanks for your efforts, I do notice things are moving in the right direction!

However, as more of a bystander, than a participant, it's not clear to me what I should be doing to help? (account sync? whats that?)

I guess even with this post, its just not clear to me where to look for more/latest info?

Usermerge?

Posted by jrdixey_ on November 23, 2009 at 9:49pm

Sounds like the Usermerge module you mentioned would fix the problem I'm having (http://groups.drupal.org/node/34964), but also like you're not ready to install that module yet. Is there any other way to merge my two gdo accounts so that I can regain control of my group? And anything I can do to fix the situation myself? Many thanks for all that you've done and are doing! Being able to login once for drupal.org and gdo will be a real timesaver for everyone.

There are three more issues

Posted by greggles on November 23, 2009 at 10:00pm

There are three more issues before usermerge will be ready to release:

If you can help provide code on those that would be great. We also need a code review in general, so if you could help provide that, I'd appreciate it.

I hope to have this too launched in the next few weeks at the latest and yes, it is what we need to really fix your situation.

Thanks!

I'll take a look at the issues.

I just have to say big thanks for what sounds like a huge job. I'm not even sure if my accounts got Bakery-ed but regardless both accounts stay logged in and I have no more endless login/reloading to do, which makes me happytimes, especially with this crazy UX sprint going on. Perfect timing. :-) You guys rock! (And so does Earl, I sorely missed my unread items, and that makes my day!)

Fix me :)

Posted by BenPalmer on November 27, 2009 at 11:52pm

Hi

I have two accounts.
I have Bensbury over at Drupal.org and this one I am using now.
I had to make this one so I could join the high performance group, so now I am running two drupal accounts.

I don't know my groups password for Bensbury.
I thought it would be the same as my drupal account but it isn't.
Also I couldn't find me on drupal groups with the google search thing on sync.

Thanks.

threading email headers

Posted by garbanzito on November 30, 2009 at 11:41am

Add headers to improve threading when notifications are sent by an email method should take care of the threading headers; List-ID etc. will have to be dealt with separately

do notifications work?

Posted by liquidcms on February 11, 2010 at 1:52pm

I see a block on the left called Group notifications.. and in there it suggests g.d.o supports notifications and gives a link to my admin page for this.. but when i click it i get Access Denied.

also, i do not see "subscribe to this post" on any content here.

I'm synced wrong :(

Posted by Nathan Gasser_ on February 18, 2010 at 11:33pm

I have one d.o account, and 2 g.d.o accounts. One of the g.d.o accounts was created automatically, but the other one, the much older one, is the one I really want access to. It's got my whole posting history, plus that account is an admin on a group that I no longer have admin access to. Is there a way (with help or self-service) to kill the second/newer g.d.o account and sync my correct d.o and g.d.o accounts? I submitted a request but no response.

sure, post links

Posted by greggles on February 18, 2010 at 11:46pm

Hi Nathan,

If you post some links for the two accounts you have and say which one is which I can help get them synched properly.

Awesome thanks!

Posted by Nathan Gasser_ on February 19, 2010 at 12:37am

drupal.org profile:
http://drupal.org/user/75248

The right groups.drupal.org profile:
http://groups.drupal.org/user/4326

The wrong profile that can be removed if you can:
http://groups.drupal.org/user/47956

Thanks!
Nate

should be all good

Posted by greggles on February 19, 2010 at 1:42am

We don't really remove profiles because it leaves dangling content that references a deleted UID, but just don't use it and eventually you can do http://drupal.org/project/usermerge

Thanks!

I'm all set. Thanks much for your help.

Same problem

Posted by jrdixey_ on February 19, 2010 at 7:18am

Hi greggles,

I'm having the same problem as Nate re: having my drupal.org profile merged with the wrong g.d.o profile. I'd like to help with the self service tool for usermerge (I have some ideas posted under that issue) but in the meantime, I've discovered that the group I launched has grown to 38 members and I can't currently administer it. Could you take a look at http://groups.drupal.org/node/34964 and see if you can do the same thing for me as you offered to do for Nate? (i.e., help merge the two profiles so that jrdixey -- the ID that I now login with on drupal.org -- can be the admin of Science Applications and I can get my other group memberships and posting history back onto that ID as well). I'd appreciate it! Let me know what else I can do to help.

got it

Posted by greggles on February 20, 2010 at 1:14am

You should be done as well.

For folks in the future, please submit an issue to the infrastructure queue.

Done
