Unsolicited email incident on Groups.drupal.org

Posted by tvn on October 23, 2014 at 3:57pm

Hi all,

2 days ago there was an unsolicited email incident on Groups.drupal.org. A number of people were added to a group without their permission and subsequently received email notifications for posts and comments in that group. This was done via 'Add members' functionality, which was available to all group organizers on Groups.drupal.org. The problem was reported via the Groups issue queue and other channels and site maintainers took immediate steps to delete the group in question and disable comments on posts to stop email notifications going out to all affected users.

Handling job postings with no specified location

Posted by senpai on June 26, 2014 at 6:16pm

Thinking about ways to deal with job postings that declare "no remote workers" but then fail to indicate where in the world they need the prospective employees to live.

A) I've tried commenting on the post to get the poster to edit their original job posting, and then removing the comment once they do, but that's only worked in about 65% of cases, I'd guess? @sreynan told me that he thinks that's a bad method or approach.

Preview Edits NO Captcha & Vocabularies

Posted by b-d on July 11, 2013 at 1:41am

1. Is there a way to DEACTIVATE the Captcha Function on the Preview post.
(In the GROUP.drupal.org creation of a group)

I'm NOT Saving my edited post yet. so i don't think i need to be checked if i'm a bot. At least I'm making Previews 1st before making a save. So that should relieve the Junk Data storage in the History and Server Functions.

2. While your at it; it would be nice to have the in Create etc... Be a Default HIDDEN. like the "Input format" & "File attachments" a lot of junk TAGS are being created in the [ Sitewide tags: ].

Request: change of group manager for western new york

Posted by fending on April 5, 2013 at 4:35pm

Hi. There's a movement to change the Manager role for our group from me (@fending) to Nicholas Garafalo (@Eidolon Night) There has been the requisite discussion period and solicitation for feedback posted in our group.

I requested remaining in an admin role to help out, but Manager duties should fall to Nick as noted here and in the discussion: http://groups.drupal.org/node/285678

thanks!/BF

Merge both Bakersfield groups?

Posted by christefano on March 8, 2013 at 3:49am

Congrats on the new group! I suggest merging this new group with the existing Antelope Valley / Bakersfield group. That group is fairly inactive but already has a couple members in it:

http://groups.drupal.org/antelope-valley-bakersfield

What do you think?

FWIW, I couldn't find anything about this new Bakersfield group in the issue queue:

Expanding policy on removing group organizers

Posted by sreynen on December 3, 2012 at 6:03pm

Currently, the only policy we have for removing group organizers on groups.drupal.org (GDO) is for abandoned groups. As the community and site grows, it's becoming clearer that GDO also needs a wider policy for removing group organizers. In some cases, we have orgaizers who haven't abandoned groups, but are otherwise harming the purpose of the site, facilitating collaboration within the Drupal community. In other cases, we have organizers of groups with no activity for over a year, clearly inactive, but we're still waiting 2 weeks.

Reporting Spam on Groups.Drupal.org

While g.d.o is headed towards a Drupal 7 launch on commons there is still some room for improvement of the Drupal 6 version of the site. As of November 7th, a new feature exists for fighting spam.

All "Editors" and "Spam fighters" on the site can now flag nodes and comments as spam. All Editors will see a block in the sidebar that shows any nodes or comments that has been flagged. They are encouraged to confirm the content is spam and then block the spammers.

Policy Proposal for Closed (by request) Groups

Posted by silverwing on June 26, 2012 at 7:51am

The Problem
We currently don't have any guidelines on when Groups should be set to "Moderated - membership requests must be approved." On our Guidelines for Forming New Drupal Groups page it just says "Almost all groups should be open. Use other choices only when there is a good reason for doing so."

Commons Architecture issues posted

Posted by ezra-g on April 26, 2012 at 6:35pm

I've posted several issues for discussing the Commons 3.x (Drupal 7) architecture.

If you have input to share about the way we build Activity streams, the choice of base theme, the WYSIWYG editor or wiki functionality in Commons, now is the time to share your thoughts!

Edit: I've added this post to the Groups.drupal.org and Maintenance groups, but it's certainly possible that GDO would implement a particular feature in a different way from Commons.

Could someone easily roll out the "Don't send notifications for this edit" on this site, or is it a really complicated and involved process?
