Bethel Redding launces new site on Drupal 7 - highly responsive

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I just wrapped up the development of Bethel Redding's new Drupal 7 site using the Panopoly distribution. Very responsive (based on Zen). I developed a custom solution for calendars that is significantly cleaner and easier to read than the standard views calendar module. Check it out: http://www.bethelredding.com

I am looking for something like that. Is it a views plugin? Is it simply css (I haven't had time to look too closely at it but any configuration tips you might have or links to recipes/code would be appreciated.

Custom Module

Posted by toddtomlinson on May 23, 2013 at 5:50pm

Hey Jon, I actually ended up creating a custom module to render the calendar exactly the way Bethel wanted it to look. There were specifics that would have made it difficult to do with just views (especially in the timeframe and budget we had). More than happy to share it with anyone who wants it. It consists of:

1) A custom content type (event)
2) Module that renders the homepage block (http://bethelredding.com) and calendar page (http://bethelredding.com/calendar)
3) Javascript (jQuery)
4) CSS

My goal is to roll it as a contrib module as I run into this requirement over and over again.

Would you be willing to share the contrib module?

Absolutely

Posted by toddtomlinson on May 23, 2013 at 9:08pm

I'm at DrupalCon this week - I'll get a sandbox on Drupal.org setup and the code up there as I create the contrib version of the module. I'll post the URL in this thread when I have it up.

Just wondering... did you

Just wondering... did you every release your calendar module? It's a lovely responsive calendar!

Calendar

Posted by DeNelo on May 24, 2013 at 8:06am

Hi,
I love the Calendar too. (And the church, but that's another matter - :) .)
It's just then I click an event (e.g. Friday Night Strikes) it does not open the event, but shows the calendar again. After clicking a few times, I noticed the URL:
http://www.bethelredding.com/calendar/content/content/content/friday-nig...
That can't be right! :)

What I would like to know, too, is how you create the podcasts and get the podcasts page so NICE!

Thanks for the catch!

We've been live for a couple of weeks and nobody mentioned that. Thanks for catching it! Fix is deployed:

RE: Podcasts -- its actually on a Ruby on Rails application.

You're welcome

Scary, though, isn't it - when something fairly obvious goes unnoticed. Perhaps people see the bug but don't know whom to tell?
I know I've had that problem before.

Hey toddtomlinson great

Hey toddtomlinson great work!

I and the community i represent are really thankful for Bethel.

May i ask, how do you clean up the date queries (so that, for example, they read ?week=2013年10月19日)?

Again, well done.

If you could release it in the next couple weeks, I would love to give it a try.

2014 is coming to a close and the need for a better calendar is still there. If you're still considering rolling a contrib module, be aware that it would be a very welcome contribution to the community.

Agree

Totally agree -- I've been swamped with work and writing my Drupal 8 book. Hoping for some free time in the next month to get the module out there.

Sandbox released?

Hello Todd,

Did you ever release a sandbox for the calendar?

Many thanks
