Hello and happy Spring to everyone!

This month we're going to be covering the general topic of backing up websites. I believe we have a volunteer to give a presentation regarding the Backup/Migrate module.

Let's expand the subject a little bit to include running parallel test sites, migrating sites, & sharing unique experiences we've all had regarding these tasks.

As always, please bring any Drupal-related issues you might have for troubleshooting. We all seem to really enjoy solving problems as a group and everyone learns something.

Meeting takes place, as per usual, at 6pm in the GRAND RAPIDS COMMUNITY MEDIA CENTER:
1130 Wealthy St SE
Grand Rapids, MI 49506

Drinks and/or food afterward at Winchester down the road... see you there!

May 13 Meeting

I SO wish that I could be there but it will be impossible.

Do you ever record the meetings for posterity, or the use of absentee members such as me? The May meeting topics are my current, personal Drupal 7 hot buttons.

Hello! Sorry you can't make it... we haven't been recording the meetings, but that's something to consider for the future. Personally, I have a handheld audio recorder I could bring. Not sure how effective that would be for you. I could also post a recap of what we talked about after the meeting if you'd like. Is there a specific issue you'd like to hear more about regarding backing up/testing sites?

May !3th Meeting

I'm sorry I can't be there. I had planned on returning in time for this meeting but recent events have made that impossible.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, there are three specific issues.

I am am the webmaster of our church site, <www.fremontfcc.org>, and am working to teach myself Drupal 7. The content of the site was done by church members, while the structural design of the site was contracted out in the interest of expediency. (I had estimated at least a year for myself to learn Drupal to a useful level and hindsight shows that to be an optimistic estimate.)

The site is running and I want to:

1) Periodically back it up to my local hardware. (The backup being provided under our terms of hosting via Plesk is unsatisfactory.)

2) Learn about alternative, best practice methods for live site backup.

3) Run what is effectively a mirror of the site in MAMP on my own machine. (I have so far been totally unsuccessful at bringing the downloaded site up in MAMP.)

Those are my points of specific interest at the moment. I'm sure they are only the tip of the iceberg.

Thanks for your interest and support,

Jack

Backup and Migrate

This is a great utility for manual or scheduled backups on your production system, and can make it much easier to migrate your data to your testing and development environments.
