For this year’s Summit, we’ll gather on the beautiful University of Michigan campus for three days of code sprints, working on issues such as porting modules and writing, updating documentation and informal presentations. We will start around 10AM and finish around 5PM each day.

After some discussion at our June meeting, the Grand Rapids Drupal User Group is adopting a new format and schedule for future meetings!

To avoid conflicts with some other popular meetups in the area, we will now be meeting on the first Monday of each month. Meetings will continue to take place at The Factory, but will begin earlier; we will plan on having an informal period from about 5:30 to 6:00 to socialize and help each other with specific challenges, followed by our scheduled presentation from 6:00 to 6:30 and more time after that for questions and collaboration as desired.

With the launch of Drupal 8, there’s a lot to be excited about in the Drupal community — and a lot left to contribute!

The polling is in and July 16th is the preferred day for the camp. I have reserved the space with the Libraries, now we need to get organizing.

TRACKS/Breakout Sessions

The 2016 Michigan Drupal Camp will be hosted at the MSU Main Library in East Lansing, MI. Save the date and check back here for signup information. Unique to this camp, there will be a track for Digital Humanities and Drupal in Libraries.

Our monthly Meetup takes place the 2nd Monday of every month. Topics will vary.

Rapid Development Group's own Joe Maag will speak on his experiences using Drupal 8's theme layer, building a custom theme with Yeoman as a generator (http://yeoman.io/).

If we have time I'll be able to talk a bit about my experiences as well and touch on the Drupal Console command line tool (complimentary to Drush).

Join us on Saturday, January 30 and Sunday, January 31 at the OpenDoor Coworking Space in Laporte for Drupal's Global Sprint Weekend!

This sprint will focus on Drupal 8 issues, and porting modules to Drupal 8.

Not up for coding? Some examples of other activities you can do at the sprint include:

• Writing docs for core or contributed modules
• Working on presentations
• Testing or reviewing patches for core or contributed modules
• Anything else that helps make Drupal awesome!

We will start at 9:00am and continue until around 6pm.

We am seeking clients for a class at the University of Michigan School of Information. Students in this class break into teams to build Drupal websites.

We have about 30 students in the class this winter, so we need 10 sites to create.

That’s where you come in.

Do you know anyone that needs a site (re)built that would be a good candidate for our students?

Drupal 8 Release Party: Detroit, USA

We will provide the content and refreshments, you bring the party.

We know there is a strong development community in Detroit, and we believe this is the season for curiosity in Drupal to bloom. The full version of Drupal 8 will be released on Nov. 19th. Now is the time to check it out, and this is the Meetup for you to do it!

Michigan Drupal Camp was a fantastic time at the beginning of the year. When should we start planning for the next one?

I am confident that I can arrange for space to host it at MSU.

I also have a few ideas for presenting a session myself.

I have built out Drupal CiviCRM integrated with Organic Groups to created a nested hierarchy for permissions/access to information.

However, I am running into snags with Access Control Lists (permissions) and would like another set of eyes on the project.

This is a Grand Rapids, MI location. Prefer to obtain local assistance. Advise if you have experience, time and motivation.

Michigan Drupal returns with a summer Meetup on June 17th in Northville Michigan.

Did you attend DrupalCon LA?

We would love to have you drop some wisdom from the world's largest annual Drupal convention. We are moving this event back west (Northville) in hopes of finding the middle ground between Detroit and Ann Arbor, less than a half hour drive for everyone!

We will be opening up the floor for 5 minute micro-presenations.

Greetings! In light of DrupalCon running during our normally scheduled (2nd Monday of every month) meetup, this month we'll be getting together on May 19th to discuss and recap our DrupalCon experiences. This will be a great opportunity for those not able to attend in Los Angeles to get some first-hand insight into what went down.
