Media in D8 Core?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Are there any plans to include Media as part of D8 core? I'm excited to see how the module is developing and would like to know what efforts exist to see it become part of the standard Drupal install.

Thanks for these helpful links. To ask a followup question: In your opinion, does it still seem that File Entity is on course to be a included in Drupal 8 core? Or is it more likely it will remain in contrib?

Steve - In speaking with Dave Reid regarding the Media initiative, he has confirmed that Media will not be part of D8 core and will remain in contrib. While there will be some file handling improvements in D8 and perhaps some related improvement, the the functionality of the Media module will remain in contrib for D8.
