I have to create an onlime magazine.
I have seen that many olnline magazines / newspapers were built with Drupal.

I am new to Drupal (I have developped sites with Joomla and Wordpress, but none with Drupal yet). So I am gathering information.

As I see that posts in « Newspapers on Drupal » have been posted a while ago with older versions of Drupal, I am wondering:

1° if Drupal is still the best low cost solution to achieve a professional result

We will be talking about Drupal 8 and media support. Where are we now? There will also be a talk about new layout methods in CSS that apply to all webdevelopers. Drupal or not.

The presentations will be held in Norwegian. Even if Norwegian is not your preferred way of communicating with the humans of Earth, feel free to join us. We will make sure you feel included and welcome.

Last week Dries Buytaert published our plan for media management in Drupal 8 which details at least the immediate plans. The inherent limitation of file based attachment/image management in core is it does not mix well with remote media (Facebook embeds, videos, Digital Asset Management, etc.) and there is no library of media to browse to reuse existing media on the site. Therefore our short term goal is to add a base to support a wide varierty of media as well as a media library and support for embedding such media in posts in general.

To support this plan, we host online meetings every Wednesday at 2pm GMT in #drupal-media on IRC, but without focused time on implementing these, we are unlikely to succeed before the feature deadline of Drupal 8.3 at the end of January 2017. Therefore we are planning the following sprints for this year.

I have just written a field formatter (called file_download) enabling file downloads and notice that the Media Group has a module page for just such a thing but no code: https://www.drupal.org/project/file_download

Can someone make me a maintainer of the module so that I can start the code happening on that page?

As we posted last week, media meetings are back every week. While we usually use these meetings to talk about the media ecosystem at large, this week will be dedicated to talk about the minimum viable product goal for media improvement in core that fits into a bigger picture of media improvements to come. The new experimental modules system in Drupal 8 allows for the inclusion of major new features which may need to still be improved but move the needle forward significantly already. We will talk about how can we use this to get improvements into core and what that improvement should be both in terms of usability and technical feasibility.

The discussion is on Wednesday July 27th at 2pm UTC. We are meeting in #drupal-media on Freenode IRC and will launch into a Google Hangout on Air to get recorded. Read more at https://drupal.org/irc on how to join the channel.

Always wanted to help with getting more media features in core and/or improve one of the media modules? Better handling of images, audio or video of some kind? There are plenty to do and help is needed on all fronts. So it is best to coordinate with others and work together. To facilitate that, regular media ecosystem meetings are back!

All issues on drupal.org that are tagged with "D8Media". Back log is constantly updated. There are also a lot issues suitable for new contributors.

Are any plans for intensive work on D8 media modules during upcoming global contrib sprint weekend in january 2016?

I'm the developer of a relatively popular WordPress plugin (wordpress.org/plugins/document-gallery), and with the release of D8 I feel that the platform may now have the media functionality I would need in order to bring over the same plugin to Drupal. Before I start this endeavor, I wanted to get some feedback on the "right" way to implement what I want to do in the Drupal way. If I'm going to bring it over, I want to do it right.

Our virtual sprints are becoming traditional already. We were very productive in Zurich last week, but there are still plenty of things to do!

Drupal 8 media team will be sprinting virtually this Friday during central European business hours (we can extend it to fit other timezones if the interest is shown).
