Where Have All The Panels Gone?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
Posted by joshk on September 6, 2009 at 9:56pm

As part of the big update to Drupal 6.0, groups is now running the latest and greatest OG Panels stack, including Panels 3.0, Chaos Tools 1.0 with the awesome Page Delegator, and the newly independent and 6.0 compatible OG Panels module.

This is a great thing for our future as a dynamic community, and it means that group maintainers can continue to use Panels to trick-out their Organic Groups. However, the complexity of the update and the changes from Views 1 to 2 mean that much of the content that was previously configured in panels no longer worked as it previously had. Unfortunately, groups admins will need to refurbish and/or recreate their homepages.

All your old pages are there, and the UI should be familiar. There are also some nice new options and more coming soon. However, all panels pages are un-published and no homepages are in effect, so you'll need to review them and republish when ready. Please use this thread to ask questions on the topic of OG Panels.

UPDATE: a wiki page with instructions is starting to come together here.

Thanks!

Thanks for the upgrade! Things look great so far.

One side note; I would have loved to make a note of my old settings before they were blown over pre-upgrade. I didn't see something saying all the views settings were going to disappear in this upgrade or else I would have been proactive about noting them. Now I can't seem to figure out how to display my group's content of a particular type (eg. Training Resource). Does anyone have any thoughts? I've tried using og_recent_type_term and overriding the argument as 'Training resource', 2715, 63/2715 and 2065/2715, and none seem to be producing any content. The contexts for type and term were both left blank.

The arguments for all the

The arguments for all the views are not documented (or I do not have access or can't find the documentation). It would be nice if they were. For example, I can't get 'river of news' restored on NZ homepage..

This part I found not too bad; it is the things one step more complicated that I'm at a loss on.

To get the River of News showing on your front page, create a new panel page and put og_ghp_ron in it. When configuring og_ghp_ron, set the context to node id. Now save, and go mark this as your home page and you should be all set!

Part of the problem here is that Views1 + Panels2 is quite different from Views2 + Panels3. However, you're right that some docs are in order, as well as some creation of new views for just these purposes.

I will start a wiki page on the groups group and link it from here.

Having a few minor problems (Access Denied)

Posted by lisarex on September 10, 2009 at 7:56pm

Hi Josh.

I posted in the issue queue but greggles pointed me back here.

My issue: http://drupal.org/node/574044

I am updating the Drupal.org redesign implementers pages on g.d.o. (http://groups.drupal.org/drupalorg-redesign-implementers) and getting 'Access denied' error messages whenever I click on a user, or try to access the wiki and documentation listing (e.g. http://groups.drupal.org/drupalorg-redesign-implementers/documentation). It's not a showstopper though.

Looks like un-published pages are not quite rocking yet. I will try and update og_panels asap.

Things we need:
1) List (and mockups) for various panel layouts that will be implemented and offered to all groups to use, instead of(of with) the current flexible layout

2) List of views that may be usefil, along with list of fields in each of the view as well as a short pagagraph on usecase and why it's useful.

Context

Posted by joshk on September 19, 2009 at 11:41pm

To use the legacy og views, we need to set the context correctly.

This is non-obvious, so I went ahead and fixed your group home page. Sorry for the confusion and hardship!

Also, attached is a screen-shot for anyone else wondering how to get the og_ghp_ron or member_faces views to work.

Thanks a lot.
It helped me getting out of frustration!

Node Types

Posted by rcross on September 19, 2009 at 11:59pm

I would like to be able to have a list of a specific content type(s). For example a list of discussions and polls. I can't seem to figure out how to get the contexts to work. Also not sure how to use the arguments. This seems really unintuitive compared to the previous version.

The context for "Node Types" gives me zero results no matter what other options I changes.

views/nodes by type

Same here. For LA Drupal we had a page (tab) for Jobs, Events, and Posts so people didn't have to breakdown our home page all the time. This wiki page is one to watch: http://groups.drupal.org/node/26273

Please (!!) add some more views. We need lists per content type!
We need latest changes, wiki tabs, lists with past events, list with jobs etc.
Please help us (admins) to increase the acceptance of g.d.o

At the moment panels is not a real benefit to g.d.o as it only supports a small block of upcoming events which is spedifiic to your own group. Anything else does not work with contexts (or is not documented)

I am willing to help, so what can we do?

Panels on GDO lost functionality on upgrade

Posted by Michael Hofmockel on September 25, 2009 at 3:42pm

Without views to support lists filtered by Node Type and/or Category the OG_Panels on GDO is useless!! I've only been able to create a RON view. Please provide appropriate views or provide documentation on how to do it with the current views.

I'm a little frustrated because I really like og_panels!!

let's work together

Hi Michael - you're near Denver, right? I'm happy to meet with you so we can configure the views that you'd like to see so that we can make a better system for everyone. Perhaps at a future DBUG meeting?

michael, here's how to do it

Posted by Brian294 on October 10, 2009 at 2:51pm

Michael,
in your og_recent_type_term block settings, go to the arguments field near the bottom and plug in something like:
all/123

all = a wildcard for all node types
123 = your taxonomy term id

Or, you can filter by node type by doing:
job/all

job = a valid node type
all = a wildcard for all taxonomy ids

Peace,
Brian

Added Some Content Panes

Posted by joshk on October 15, 2009 at 5:15pm

I have added dedicated content-panes to allow people to set these up more easily. They (and other new views) can be found in tho "GDO" set of panel content options.

Contexts need fixing

Posted by pdube1 on November 5, 2009 at 7:24pm

Would this upgrade have caused my grouop to be orphaned (again)?
I am the manager of a group but the my groups widget shows "not a member of any groups".
This is exasperating because I recently lost my member ID. I had to create a new one just to report the loss - this ended up the surviving ID. Now it appears the 'connector' to my group has been broken. However, I can log in and post to the group.

Paul
