Groups.drupal.org

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

The group to discuss the use of groups.drupal.org. This is for active users of the site, group admins, and maintainers to collaborate on how to improve the groups.drupal.org site. There is also a Maintenance group for people who help maintain the site, such as those with editor permissions, or those are interested in the maintenance of the site. More specific issues should be posted to the groups.drupal.org project issue queue.

GDO on D8?

Posted by ebrittwebb on March 3, 2019 at 9:28pm

I presume that GDO is running on Drupal 7, right? Has there been any discussion of moving to D8? I guess to do that, the OG module would have to reach a stable release, which may not happen for a while?

Thoughts?

Too Much SPAM

Posted by orkutmuratyilmaz on July 25, 2018 at 6:46am

I've marked a lot of comments, posts and users as SPAM today. Also, it took some time to delete them from my e-mail inbox.

What should we do? How do we proceed? SPAM attacks are getting bigger day by day.

Unsolicited email incident on Groups.drupal.org

Posted by tvn on October 23, 2014 at 3:57pm

Hi all,

2 days ago there was an unsolicited email incident on Groups.drupal.org. A number of people were added to a group without their permission and subsequently received email notifications for posts and comments in that group. This was done via 'Add members' functionality, which was available to all group organizers on Groups.drupal.org. The problem was reported via the Groups issue queue and other channels and site maintainers took immediate steps to delete the group in question and disable comments on posts to stop email notifications going out to all affected users.

Duplicate groups

Posted by michelle on October 22, 2014 at 11:50am

I noticed two new groups that are duplicates:

https://groups.drupal.org/classified-advertising vs https://groups.drupal.org/classifieds

and

https://groups.drupal.org/programming-social-networking-communities vs both https://groups.drupal.org/social-networking-sites and https://groups.drupal.org/community

I haven't been back for that long so I'm not sure where we stand, now, on dupes. Should these be merged?

Strategic development of groups and d.o

Posted by japerry on October 3, 2014 at 3:21pm

As many have heard, the Association has acquired more resources to work on the groups migration. I'm hoping this discussion can talk about how we do this.

Facts:
GDO generates ~ 100k page views a month, drupal.org is 5.3 million
GDO has ~1200 total groups

There are approx 3 major types of users on GDO:
* Local User Groups
* Working Groups
* Projects

There has been no commitment to create a commons2/d6 to commons3/d7 migration module, and no work has been done on commons_migrate for over 6 months.

APIs would need to be written in order to link content on GDO to D.o

Redesigned Drupal.org profile page: your feedback needed!

Posted by danigrrl on June 21, 2014 at 12:04am

Hi everyone! We're in the process of redesigning the profile page on Drupal.org, and we need the community's feedback! You can find the issue at: https://www.drupal.org/node/2281763.

Specific feedback needed:

  1. Assuming that we're keeping the current theme, does the organization of information make sense on the page?
  2. Is there any new information we should be collecting on profiles? Since this will require refactoring several of the data elements in profiles, we have a great opportunity to allow users to show/share more about themselves.

Signups TAB = Attendies or Registered?

Posted by b-d on November 12, 2013 at 1:25pm

What's your idea?

Changing the Tab names or Moving the sign up button on Top?

What are the benefits?

At first glance if i want to sign up i click the TAB believing it to be a link to sign up.

And seeing there's no sign up button in the "Sign Ups" Tab i figured it's a closed event and move on.

What are the risks?

NONE clearer understanding on how the tab works.

How can we measure the impact of this idea? (metrics)

Non-Drupal users ease of sign up and want to skip reading the details.

Empowering Community Engagement Through Improving drupal.org

Posted by designguru on July 22, 2013 at 11:24pm

As Drupal software is increasingly used by more people around the world to power a varied array of projects - from simple online publishing tools to complex web applications, defining the sense of community drupal.org facilitates becomes more relevant.

At base, the term ‘community’ can be applied to the meta group of people and organizations using Drupal around the world purely by the fact that they share this use in common. Taking the definition a step further, a more ideal ‘community’ would also imply a sense of fellowship between members which could result in common goals.

Preview Edits NO Captcha & Vocabularies

Posted by b-d on July 11, 2013 at 1:41am

1. Is there a way to DEACTIVATE the Captcha Function on the Preview post.
(In the GROUP.drupal.org creation of a group)

I'm NOT Saving my edited post yet. so i don't think i need to be checked if i'm a bot. At least I'm making Previews 1st before making a save. So that should relieve the Junk Data storage in the History and Server Functions.

2. While your at it; it would be nice to have the in Create etc... Be a Default HIDDEN. like the "Input format" & "File attachments" a lot of junk TAGS are being created in the [ Sitewide tags: ].

Notifications - email updates and their readability

Posted by manarth on March 9, 2013 at 8:56am

I'm sure most of us here get daily update emails from g.d.o. and I'd guess many of you are, like me, mildly irked at trying to read them. I thought I'd take a stab at trying to lay them out so they're more readable.

In the long run, I'd like to see beautifully crafted HTML emails, but thought some small spacing and layout changes would be a lot quicker and easier to do than full-blown HTML.

Here are my main critiques of the email as it stands:

Drupal Code of Conduct / Values

Posted by webtomme on November 17, 2012 at 9:35pm

Does Drupal has an established base Code of Conduct for geographical user groups?

It might sound surprising but it would be good to have one for the young community in Vietnam for example, as it's not necessarily understood per default. Maybe something similar to this but more adjusted for Drupal people: http://linux.org.au/draft-linux-australia-code-conduct

Reporting Spam on Groups.Drupal.org

Posted by greggles on November 7, 2012 at 4:57pm
Last updated by rowbotony on Mon, 2015年12月14日 00:40

While g.d.o is headed towards a Drupal 7 launch on commons there is still some room for improvement of the Drupal 6 version of the site. As of November 7th, a new feature exists for fighting spam.

All "Editors" and "Spam fighters" on the site can now flag nodes and comments as spam. All Editors will see a block in the sidebar that shows any nodes or comments that has been flagged. They are encouraged to confirm the content is spam and then block the spammers.

Retrieving Posts from a Recently Deleted Group

Posted by indigetal on October 11, 2012 at 1:42am

I recently received an email notifying me that my group proposal "Students of Drupal" was denied because of a number of similar groups. I understand the reasons and have in fact been transferring my posts to the Drupal Dojo group but I haven't transferred all of them yet and I'm wondering how I can access the wiki's that I wrote. The email notification that I received mentions that "the posts inside the group are still available," but I'm unable to find them, any suggestions?

Thanks!

Stopping spammers on GDO

Posted by saitanay on September 25, 2012 at 10:04am

It is very obvious that GDO is receiving as much spam as real content. Especially by certain people believe that SEO is all about posting links on irrelevant sites.

Causing many issues created on GDO just for spam removal
http://drupal.org/project/issues/groupsdrupalorg?text=spam&status=Open&p...

For example the last 5 replies in a thread that I have subscribed to, are all spam, with a comment where the author tries to make it look like a relevant post, with no real content and a link to an irrelevant site
