Usability: Add ability to sort Groups Directory by number of subscribers

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I would like to be able to sort the Groups Directory by number of subscribers, so that I can easily view a list of the most active/popular groups. Can anyone to make this happen?

Maybe I'm missing something... but isn't the group directory just a view? Couldn't you modify the view to include the number of members... number of comments... number of posts... etc. for whichever you want to be able to sort on... then create a table view of the directly listing and make that column sortable? Or just add that to the sort parameter of the view?

Edit: Completely missed the comment about the upcoming move to D6 groups. Thought we were already there.
