Proposed Drupal MeetUp Jan2012

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
Posted by ghmercado on December 30, 2011 at 5:28am

Hi all, my name is Gary. I would like to organize a Drupal Meet Up sometime January 2012, and am polling for interest.

Preferred venue and time is Makati, Waltermart area and a late Saturday morning, Jan. 14, 21, 28 or Feb. 4, around 10am-12nn.

Reasons why I am doing this:
- I am a Drupal developer and am interested in sharing what I know and learning more.
- I'd like to know who else shares same interests.
- I'd like to see some locally grown projects.
- If there is a way to help promote the technology I'd like to know about it and help. I've some ideas of my own.
- I started a hosting company and am interested in seeing what people want and promote it.

pls. sign up here? http://bit.ly/tUl7Vs

thanks folks
gary

[addendum: thanks danreb for pointing out wrong dates!! i think i found an ubuntu bug]

but Jan 15, 22, 29 in 2012 on my Calendar is Sunday, is that a typo?

BTW, I don't know if I'm missing something but upon clicking the sign up link, the spreadsheet is shown but I can't enter my name there, document seems to be read only, do we need to login to gmail first?

oops double whammy! so sorry

oops double whammy!

so sorry about that. inayos ko na. i think i found a bizarre ubuntu calendar bug, I scrolled the dates farther than dec 2011 to jan 2012 and it showed those wrong dates. but now I can't recreate the issue parang naayos na siya.

also I fixed the google doc to 'Anyone who has the link can edit', so pls. try again? thanks!

kudos for the initiative

Hi Gary,

+1 for initiating an early meetup this 2012. I vote for co.lab Makati or somewhere public... but not too crowded (I think) like KFC Ayala-MRT station :P

Proposed Drupal Meetup - Jan 28 ? Merge, is it possible?

Posted by danreb on January 9, 2012 at 8:15am

Hi Gary,

There's another Drupal meetup here - > http://groups.drupal.org/node/201068., seems this will be on the same day.

Is merge / join force possible? I think you can also share your topic/concern there within the community.

Thanks.

Sounds good!

Hi Gary,

meetup have different time slot:

meetup 1 (by Gary): 10am - 12nn

meetup 2 (by Rachel): 1 - 5PM

Sa akin ay suggestion lang naman kung pwede :) , so this mean, we can go on with your meetup and still be able to attend the MS meetup.

So ok lang kahit hindi ma move ng sched. :)

oo nga! i thought that was

Posted by ghmercado on January 9, 2012 at 9:08am

oo nga! i thought that was whole day. ok tuloy tayo! ignore the email i sent. will send a new one :D

Concerted Effort

Posted by tg3793 on January 10, 2012 at 7:57am

If these meetups are on the same day then I'll only be able to attend one of them. Doing the whole day is a bit difficult for us married types (with two children under two years old) that don't want to be away from our families the whole day :-)

In any event there is of course only a fifty-fifty chance I will come anyhow. In addition being a committed family man, we have also just signed a lease on a new apartment and I have that added to my already full load of responsibilities.

But I'm still going to put a concerted effort to coming to one of them though. This will be the first meetup that I've known about since I initially found out about this Drupal community here in the Philippines.

consensus / poll on this matter?

Posted by marcrobinsone on January 10, 2012 at 4:22pm

Did I just miss a piece of information? Tuloy po ba? If so, what/where/how yung meetup #1 and meetup #2?

Most importantly... are those meetup events getting merged?

My personal bottom-line: I just wish to hang out and chill with the new guys (hey there Tim) over coffee or beer.

tuloy until said otherwise,

Posted by ghmercado on January 10, 2012 at 11:22pm

tuloy until said otherwise, no merging necessary :)

12 people have signed up for the waltermart one, will find a resto there and make arrangements soon to make sure were all comfortable.

Thanks!

ayos

Posted by marcrobinsone on January 10, 2012 at 11:45pm

Ayus. Just signed up and blocked Jan 28th in my calendar. Umbrella, check. See you there.

P.S. resto? -- the only one with accommodating (long) tables I can think of is Mr. Choi's Kitchen at the ground floor. Chowking and Jollibee is malaki too... pero rami tao.

Pano kung walang budget yung attendee, ha kuya? :-P

Is this the correct location?

I'm new in Makati!

Questions

Posted by androdayao77 on January 24, 2012 at 8:53pm

How many people are attending? Is there a fee? Is this noob friendly?

jhayzhon and androdayao: yes

Posted by ghmercado on January 24, 2012 at 11:02pm

jhayzhon and androdayao:

  • yes tuloy until said otherwise
  • I'll go to waltermart tomorrow to reserve a place, i'll update this when i have news. Sorry haven't had time.
  • yes noob friendly. There probably be won't be any formal tech issues discussed here. 20 people are coming to meet in 2 hours lang. If ever our goal here is to just get to know each other then pagusapan natin kung paano tayo maka setup ng bagong mas malaking meetup / fest in the future.

later!

Mga kapatid, Good news. It

Posted by ghmercado on January 26, 2012 at 6:19am

Mga kapatid,

Good news. It turns out may seminar area ang Camera Club of the Philippines at the 5th floor of Waltermart Makati, and since may kilala ako dun, binook ko na for 10-12am, Jan28 Saturday. So:

Final Venue - Camera Club Philippines 5th Floor Waltermart Makati. They have a seminar area with tables, chairs and a projector + screen there, just big enough to handle 20 people. WIFI is available on the 5th floor, but bring another option just in case.

Pass The Hat System - May cost tayo na P1.8k for 2 hours rental + projector. Everyone is encouraged to donate as much or as little as you can, kahit P20 ok na (I remember how it feels to be a hungry for knowledge but broke stude). As soon as we make 1.8k we'll stop collecting. I have paid ahead.

Now that we have a room + projector, pwede na tayo mag seminar. Please suggest your own topic, or choose amongst the ff. kung ano gusto niyo ituro / pagusapan:

  1. Your sites.
  2. The problems you encounter running / developing your sites.
  3. Feeds
  4. Drush demo
  5. Panels
  6. Using Feeds to import data sample.
  7. Theming
  8. Views and CCk
  9. Views Theming
  10. CCK
  11. Node Theming
  12. LAMPP Stack
  13. Why you use Drupal
  14. Your career using Drupal
  15. Career options using Drupal
  16. What you can do with Drupal (hopefully with sample sites)
  17. Hosting (what do you recommend for Drupal, experiences).
  18. Varnish, NGinx, caching etc.
  19. atbp.

In other words, this is an unstructured FREE FOR ALL event, where we can get to know each other, learn more about others' uses of our fave CMS. We have a venue, tables and chairs plus, all we need to bring is our knowledge and a willingness to share!

BTW can someone bring a portable PA system / karaoke or anything that has a mic and speaker? Otherwise the speaker just has to raise his voice.

comments welcome, thank you!
Gary

forgot to add add'l

Posted by ghmercado on January 26, 2012 at 6:55am

forgot to add

  • add'l suggested topic: SECURITY - maybe someone can make a 'best practices' or better yet, a 'how to lockdown your site' or 'how to perform a security evaluation'. We all want that.

  • i'll be talking about my own sites and experiences.

  • keep topics to 10 mins if you plan on saying something. You can talk about anything actually basta relevant.

  • Sitting around just listening and talking amongst each other is not cool, kailangan give and take.

thats it salamat ulit

Can't wait to meet everyone there. See you guys.

Travel tips, if commuting via:

  • By car — find the nearest route going to Pasong Tamo (now called "Chino Roces")
