session proposal at drupalcon for a pre-built development environment. free. open source. with php debugging. works on MAC, Windows, linux, and solaris.

I'm planning to give the talk at DrupalCamp San Diego, and it has been accepted as talk at SCaLE 7x. It should be pretty polished by the time march rolls around. if you're interested, please check it out and vote: DrupalCon 2009 - Drupal Development in a "to go" box.

It's based on completely free open source tools.

  • eclipsephp
  • netbeans IDE (with drupal module development plugin)
  • xdebug
  • xampp (apache, mysql, php5, xdebug, virtual hosting setup)
  • gimp
  • inkscape
  • geany
  • virtual hosting setup that includes multi-site multi-versions of drupal for easy setup & go
  • (hopefully) even SVN

I'll have a download available soon. an older version is available here. I am currently working on a slimmed down faster yet more feature rich environment.

Encourage Drupal core development

One useful feature would be to have a preconfigured installation of the latest development version of Drupal with all the required tools to apply and create patches (cvs, patch, etc). Having to do this step manually has been a big barrier to many contributors to Drupal core.

SVN would be a big bonus

I always carry around a passport hd with a copy of my SVN repositories and development setup. Your distro will be welcome, and I second the CVS integration; but I think CVS is default in Eclipse?

Cross platform? Wow, you've put a lot of work into this. If it works as well as promised and I hope, I think this will boost the developer community tremendously. Then I could turn my external passport into an NTFS drive and use it on any platform, a big, big bonus.

@flobruit, what is the development version 7.x? I think that regardless people need some basic understanding of different tools an ideas; but I'd be happy to be proven wrong in this.

Waiting in anticipation!

Looking fwd to it

I know I ́m looking fwd to it, big time!

A nice touch would be having some already burned to dvd for your SCALE & DC presentations. I ́m sure that could get pricey but might be a nice bonus for your listeners. Lemme know if you need any help with that, Mike.

Actually, just realized that, for SCALE anyways, at your talk you could announce that you ́ll have some copies over at the LA Drupal booth. That ́ll drive the masses over. Just make sure to have enough volunteers ready. ;)

+1 for SVN

+1 for SVN. This would be great. Looking forward to it!

New torrent?

Posted by mtiffany on March 11, 2009 at 2:23am

I hope your presentation went well! I was sorry to not be able to attend. Do you have a new package to share? I can help seed.

Is the new package available yet?

Posted by Miguel-gdo on April 20, 2009 at 4:34am

I checked a few months back & noone was seeding the older version.

Do you have a torrent file for the newer version, Mike? I ́d be glad to help seed it as I have yet to see this fabulous new environment you keep speaking of.

Whatever happened to this?

Inquiring minds want to know. :)

the torrent didnt get

Posted by mike stewart on March 31, 2010 at 7:34pm

the torrent didnt get consistently seeded.

however, you might want to give this a whirl: http://drupal.org/project/drubuntu

installing ubuntu on virtualbox is pretty easy. the project above is supposed to help automate the setup of a development environment
