Getting a new group moderated

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I started a new Drupal group for my area a little over a month ago (first meet up tonight!), but I'm noticing that the group is not in the main groups listing and has the moderation message at the top of it. Have I missed a step in setting up the group? Any way I can request to have it moderated into a "real" group? Thanks for any pointers!

Well, there are only a few volunteer moderators. We need more.

Here's the kind of questions that if you answered in the group description might help:

Your group is posted with no explanation of where it is in the world. What country, state, region? Perhaps there is an existing group that covers the same region - did you search? Why do you need a new group rather than collaborating with an existing group?

Thanks for writing back so quickly!

I just updated the group description to include more specific geo information. I did do a search, and there is a group in Philidephia which is (at the closest edge of my proposed area) about 1.5 hours away, up to 2-3 hours away for others who have expressed an interest.

My hope is that I can foster a local community, and potentially collaborate with that larger group once or twice a year down the road on larger regional events. It's just too far for most folks as an on-going group.

In moderating groups I consider "findability" much more important than geographic distance. For example, there is only on New Jersey group. That covers 7+M people over a long state, but allows us to share ideas, events, and discussions.

An "Eastern Pennsylvania" group to complement the "Western Pennsylvania" group would be a better idea, imho.

I can see value to both; a more local group as well as a larger regional group and will definitely begin discussions about an Eastern PA group. In the meantime, I'm unclear as to where this leaves my original request?
