Hello All!

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
Posted by partyp on January 13, 2011 at 3:44pm

I just moved to the Richmond area last weekend and I am looking to meet and network with some Drupal lovers. Are there any Drupal(or generic) web design/developer meetups going on in the area?

I'm also looking to create some local support for Drupalers. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will do my best to answer/help!

Hope to meet some of you soon :)

Welcome To Richmond

I agree, we need an active Drupal organization in RVA as I think we have a decent number of Drupal developers and users in town. Perhaps with the arrival of Drupal 7 this is a good time to get organized?

Thanks and yes.

Hi Peter and thanks for the reply! Just last night I finished theming a Drupal 7 site. There was a lot of new things going on in D7 I didn't know about. It would be great to organize and meetup to discuss our Drupal issues and successes. Any ideas how to get more people and possibly where we could meet?

I'm in and welcome!

I'm in the middle of some Drupal 7 sites as well. Theming is certainly different and while Drupal 7 might be stable, lots of necessary contrib modules aren't there yet. Also, there are lots of issues with migrating D6 to D7. Not to mention Drupalcon, etc. Lots to talk about! Would be good to network locally with some fellow Drupalers!

As far as a place to meet, any place with food, drink and wifi and free parking. Capital Ale might be a good possibility. There are a few good locations and they seem to welcome networking.

When to meet?

...lots of necessary contrib modules aren't there yet.

Not to mention, Views. I had some pains with using views and draggable views.

Is the Capital Ale you are talking about on Cox Road? I live close to there. It looks like we have three of us. That's enough for me. If I find some more time today, I may start a meetup group to attract some more peeps.. i might call it "RVA Drupalers" or something..

Want to meet next week? What days work well for you guys? I am free anytime during the week.

Howdy!

Hi guys,

Count me tentatively in, as well as at least two others who used to participate in the Richmond Open Source Meetup.

That group is dissolving, I believe, so it may be easy to pick up the Drupalheads from it.

Count me in...

I haven't done anything in D7 yet but am extremely interested in other people's experiences with it (especially migrating from D6 to D7). Downtown Capital Ale is on my busline. However, I could drive out to the Westend one.

Next week is good for me. I'm good any day except Wednesdays.

Hey guys: we've been holding

Posted by pembertona on January 31, 2011 at 6:46pm

Hey guys: we've been holding Drupal user group meetings at my company, CapTech - www.captechconsulting.com, for a while but have only really ever communicated them internally.

Our next one is in about 2 weeks and we were thinking of opening it up to the public... we'll probably have 5 - 10 people there from CapTech.

Would you all be interested?

We usually meet at our office in the West End: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=7100+Forest+... - but have an office by VCU w/space, too.

Thoughts?

sounds like fun

I'd love to join you guys at the CapTech meeting. Just let me know the details.

CapTech Location Sounds Great

Posted by peter feddo on January 31, 2011 at 7:37pm

The central location seems ideal and the venue perhaps a bit more friendly to Drupal discussion.

getting together...

I'd definitely be in for something at the ale house (downtown or south side.) Any night works for me, just let me know when and where.

Tentative yes

I've got a local D7 install, but I don't think I'll be using it on client sites for at least a few months yet (once more contrib modules get out of beta). Anyhow, I'm always keen to get together with other Drupalists. I'm about 2 hours away (on the "northern neck" of Virginia), so my schedule would have to be pretty clear on a meeting day in order to make it.

If you'd like, I can also post a message on the Tidewater Virginia group. Most of the folks in that group are down in the Virginia Beach area as I recall, but maybe someone would be interested in making the trek.

FYI: our next meeting is 2/9

Posted by pembertona on January 31, 2011 at 6:53pm

FYI: our next meeting is 2/9 from 6pm - 7:30pm.

The topic was going to be Content Author Usability, but we'd love to chat about the Richmond Drupal Community (eg: plans for regular meetups, goals, etc.).

Sounds good to me! I'm in.
