From a conflation of Old Irish díl ("satisfaction, paying, of a debt") (from do·lá ("rejects, remits (a debt)"), from Proto-Celtic *dī- layeti ("throw away"), from Proto-Indo-European *leh1- ("loosen, release")) and dìoghail , from Old Irish dígal ("vengeance") (from Proto-Celtic *dī- galā ).
