I removed the following definitions of the verb because none of my dictionaries has them. As far as I can tell they only apply to canvass:

  1. To assess and attempt to attract political support, often by party supporters from door to door.
  2. To solicit votes from potential voters in an area or district, or to sway others your way to gain support or power.
  3. To question everyone in an area near a crime to collect clues. This is a common procedure used by police and private detectives.

According to the dictionaries, to canvas and to canvass are not synonyms. --141.155.20.192 01:57, 15 December 2007 (UTC) Reply

Sirs:

Consider its meaning in kiss the canvas meaning "kiss the ring". 87.218.84.97 10:05, 11 November 2025 (UTC) Reply
