To start a new discussion section, please click here First powered Icelandic boat[edit ]Members may be interested in the discussion in WT:SHIPS about whether Stanley (boat) meets WP:GNG. The stub is now sourced and there is more content at is:Stanley (bátur), sourced to this article. Unfortunately, GoogleTranslate doesn't seem to cope with Icelandic very idiomatically. Can anyone here assist with this? Davidships (talk) 10:31, 24 February 2022 (UTC) [reply ] User script to detect unreliable sources[edit ]Main page: User:Headbomb/unreliable
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
and turns it into something like
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web }}, {{cite journal }} and {{doi }}. The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed. Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable. This is a one time notice and can't be unsubscribed from. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell }}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories. Having recently read the book Burial Rites based on her life, and struggled to understand this word, I'm fairly sure that's not the best translation for an early 19th-century house. I've edited the article to give an inter-wiki link and added "((the main living space of the house)", but someone more familiar with Iceland and Icelandic could certainly do better. Over to you. - What is now in the article is correct. His bibliography could be expanded, he seems to have written a decent amount of books. Alvaldi (talk) 13:35, 8 January 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

Icelandic name
[edit ]Hello. Here is Stefán Teitur Þórðarson, an up-and-coming footballer from a startling dynasty of players (check out the "Personal Life" section!). The article has the usual "Icelandic name" template, but doesn't address the difference between Þórðarson
and Thórdarson
: it simply uses both forms, as indeed do multiple sources. Does it matter? What do we usually do in these cases? Is there an argument for consistency within the article? – Or maybe an argument for INconsistency, reflecting real life! It might be that the article is already perfect and no change is needed. Do please educate me. Thank you, best to all, DBaK (talk) 18:17, 11 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Hi @DisillusionedBitterAndKnackered. For Icelandic names, the person is referred by his given name, in this case Stefán (or Stefán Teitur). Thordarson is a transliteration of Þórðarson due to Þ not currently being in the english alphabet (it was in the past and is part of the Latin characters) The person should not be referred to as Thordarson or Þórðarson in the article. Alvaldi (talk) 18:37, 11 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- Thanks! So ALL of those appearances of Thordarson and Þórðarson should simply come out? DBaK (talk) 18:41, 11 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
- OK done it, thanks. I've also done Template:Preston North End F.C. squad which is probably going to get my arse kicked for it "not being a proper surname" etc etc. But worth a try I think? Cheers! DBaK (talk) 18:49, 11 February 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

The European Destubathon
[edit ]Project members are invited to participate in The European Destubathon in April. Almost 3000ドル in Amazon voucher prizes, including a prize for articles from your project, which can be used to buy books for content, though it can also be treated as an editathon if you're not interested in competing! Minimum content to be added to each article just to ensure that they're over a stub, though longer expansions also welcome. Entries at the end of the contest will be tipped into the 50,000 Destubbing Challenge and European Challenge. Previous contests were really enjoyable and I'm hoping this one will be too! Sign up if interested. Thanks! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:48, 10 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
