Articles for Creation backlog drive

[edit ]
Latest comment: 14 days ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Hello PamD:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in August!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than a month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 August 2026 through 31 August 2026.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 5000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 19 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Srinivasa Ramanujan Concept School logo 2018.png . The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of non-free use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:36, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

pennine

from the letter setting out the plans

Blackburn with Darwen Council, Burnley Council, Hyndburn Borough Council, Pendle Borough Council and Rossendale Borough Council (referred to in the proposal as ‘Pennine Lancashire’)

Morwen (talk) 20:22, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Yes, I've just seen that. Interesting that it doesn't get a mention in any of the news coverage that I've seen. Ditto "Fylde Coast". Redirects needed until the dust settles. Pam D 20:24, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
This is part of why I think it would have been better to keep them as drafts. Morwen (talk) 20:29, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
I think the names are less important than the structure, which has now been agreed: we can move articles, and provide redirects from alternative/rejected names, if the names change. Pam D 20:33, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
I've added the two alt names, sourced to Reed's letter, and made redirects. Pam D 21:09, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
I think we should use the names in the letter until we get confirmation for the names and news does return results for "Fylde Coast" unitary. Do you have any objections on moving to Fylde Coast (district) and Pennine Lancashire? The latter would also remove the need to disambiguate. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:13, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply
I think we'd do better to stick to the NSEW names, as they are used in the sources I've seen. I've made redirects/hatnotes, and we can move them later if need be. Pam D 21:19, 20 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

Major

Hi PamD, Thanks for moving Lenia Major from Major to Major (surname). I did not notice, but this indeed is the right place. Shouldn't Ann Major and Lee Major be moved as well from Major to Major (surname)? Same goes for Lee Majors - shouldn't he be moved from Major to Majors (surname)? Thanks again, The Regulator 1 (talk) 16:38, 27 July 2026 (UTC) Reply

@The Regulator 1 No, there's a difference between real names and pen names or pseudonyms. That's why I said "remove individual real person,..." in my edit summary, but perhaps that wasn't clear - and "real name" was what I meant anyway.
I was just coming to your talk page to ask: did you actually write Lenia Major or is it a translation of the fr.wiki article? If the latter, you need to acknowedge that fact and thus give credit to the French editors. See Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia#Translating from other language Wikimedia projects. I see that some of your other recent article creations are also on French topics - same applies there.
Another point on Lenia Major: we don't link years - I see that the French list of publications links to the French version of 2026 in literature etc for each item, and we don't even do that usually in lists of publications in en.wiki, but please go back and tidy up your links - they seem to have some very odd piping too, perhaps from going through the list and editing the year links at speed? Thank you, PamD !!
Now I understand what you menat by "real" in this context...
Indeed this is mostly based on translation from the French Wikipedia. I was not aware that credit should be given in such cases, and I will be more than happy to do so going forward, and I will also go back to all my tranlations thus far, and do the same - thanks again for this.
Specifically for Lenia Major, I added in the "talk page" the "This article contains a translation of Lenia Major from fr.wikipedia." comment.
As for the linked years - I just removed, hopefully all of them. And used this opportunity to add a "Content in this edit is translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at fr:Lenia Major" comment on that edit (better late then never... next time it will be on my first edit comment.
Cheers,
