Welcome to the Nevada Roads task force of the U.S. Roads WikiProject! If you would like to help, please jump in and start adding or editing.

Scope

[edit ]

This task force concentrates on creating quality articles pertaining to roads and highways in Nevada. Articles within the scope of this task force include:

  • All State Routes (including former routes),
  • State-detail articles about Interstates and U.S. highways in Nevada,
  • signed county routes, and
  • other notable roads and highway-related topics (such as Summerlin Parkway).

Goals

[edit ]
  • Create an article for every state-maintained highway and significant roadway in Nevada.
  • Improve the quality of all articles in the project.

Recognized content

[edit ]
This is a list of recognized content, updated weekly by JL-Bot (talk · contribs) (typically on Saturdays). There is no need to edit the list yourself. If an article is missing from the list, make sure it is tagged or categorized (e.g. Category:Nevada road transport articles) correctly and wait for the next update. See WP:RECOG for configuration options.

Resources

[edit ]

The following is a short list of web references and links which may help in the creation and expansion of articles:

Instead of raw links to this resource please use Template: NDOT SMBook. If/when Nevada DOT revamps their webpage using this template allows us to have one place to update the URL instead of hundreds of articles to update.
use Template:Cite NDOT map instead of raw links

These are links to internal pages of editing notes/resources:

Structure of articles

[edit ]

Nevada highway articles follow the layout and conventions outlined in the WikiProject U.S. Roads Article Standards. Please consult that document first, as the guidelines detailed here supplement the USRD standards.

Naming conventions

[edit ]
  • Articles about numbered highways shall follow the appropriate naming conventions established at WP:USSH.
  • Other articles within the scope of this project should use a commonly recognized name, following the guidelines of WP:NAME.

Infobox

[edit ]

{{Infobox road }} is the standard template used to create the information box on Nevada roads articles. See the template documentation for full a complete list of parameters and usage instructions.

Below is the basic syntax necessary to generate an infobox with the parameters most commonly used on Nevada articles, along with Nevada-specific parameter notes.

Basic Infobox Road syntax and Nevada-specific parameter notes
{{Infobox road
|state=NV
|type=
|route=
|alternate_name=
|map=
|length_mi=
|length_round=
|length_ref=
|established=
|history=
|direction_a=
|terminus_a=
|junction=
|direction_b=
|terminus_b=
|previous_type=
|previous_route=
|next_type=
|next_route=
}}
  • alternate_name: Use where the entire route (or a significant portion thereof) has a specific name. For example, State Route 431 is called Mount Rose Highway for its entire length.
  • maint: If left blank, this is automatically filled in with "NDOT" by the template. Fill in with an appropriate agency if not maintained by NDOT. If the road is not an active highway, use none.
  • length_ref: Most route lengths should be cited using Nevada State Maintained Highways: Descriptions & Maps
  • established: This is the date the route was assigned to its current alignment. For most current state routes, this will be 1976.
  • history: Can be used to briefly explain history of a pre-1976 state route number that shared the same alignment.
  • junction: Include all junctions with Interstates, U.S. Highways, and freeways. State Route junctions should only be included if the article is about a state route and the junction is with a significant state highway.
  • counties: Where used, all counties the route passes through should be wikilinked in a comma-delimited list, presented in order from south-to-north or west-to-east.
  • Previous/Next route browsing: Auxiliary/Special routes, Interstate business loops, and pre-1976 state routes (except SR 28 and SR 88) are not included in the browse order.

See Nevada State Route 376 for a typical example of Infobox Road in action.

Junction lists

[edit ]

All Nevada road articles about an active numbered highway shall have a junction table created in compliance with MOS:RJL. Tabular road junction lists shall be created using the {{jctint }} family of templates, using {{NVint }} for each row entry and enclosing the table between {{jcttop }} and {{jctbtm }} tags. Use of background colors is encouraged (subject to MOS:RJL provisions).

Participation

[edit ]

If you are interested in editing Nevada road articles, add your username and info to the centralized U.S. Roads participants list. (The old Nevada Roads participants list, which can be found here, is being phased out.)

Task force members can show their participation by adding one of these userboxes to their user page.
