Gwythr can hardly have been derived from *weteros, because in that position t would have gone to d; and why should the second e be syncopated? In Welsh, *weteros would have become something like *gweder; for Gwythr we're looking for something more like *wixtros. No, unless I'm mistaken, there isn't any such evidence. AFAIK the inscriptions all refer to Veteri in the dative. Q·L· 1968 ☿ 23:43, 18 December 2020 (UTC) [reply ]
