Map request

[edit ]

Per {{reqmapin }} template added at the top of this talk page, a map of the Kimberley Region would improve the ability to locate this topic geographically. Follow the coordinate links from the article to see the detailed location. Neither the Australia nor Western Australia maps provide a reasonable level of detail for this topic. --N8wilson 17:43, 27 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]

@N8wilson: I think the far easier and more interactive solution is to add the Template:Infobox mapframe, which uses OpenStreetMap. Is that suitable? Calistemon (talk) 11:01, 28 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
@Calistemon: 👍 sounds good/better to me! I haven't used that method myself so I'm not directly familiar with the process but I recognize OpenStreetMap and that sounds like a win to me. --N8wilson 13:38, 28 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
@N8wilson: I noticed you also put a similar request on a number of location articles in the Kimberley region. OpenStreetMap works well there, too. It does however require linking the location's Wikidata item to OpenStreetMap and then wait a few days for OSM to update. It displays like the OSM map in Perth (suburb) does, for example. For bigger places, the zoom just needs adjusting. Calistemon (talk) 11:50, 30 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
Thanks Calistemon. It's been a while since I looked at mapping on WP but after your previous comment I investigated a little starting with {{Infobox mapframe }} and eventually stumbled upon a number of good solutions. I'm fine with any type of map in general. Please interpret all those requests as very generic - no specific type of map requested. They aren't even "requests" per se as much as they are just notes indicating some articles that could be improved with a visual geographic reference. {{OSM Location map }} also seems like a good candidate which I tried out on the Kuri Bay. Bottom line: the method doesn't matter much IMO. --N8wilson 15:25, 30 May 2022 (UTC) [reply ]
