Two short articles on the same person. One page is best. History2007 (talk) 09:41, 23 September 2010 (UTC) [reply ]

Disease Diagnosis

[edit ]
From what I have gleaned, the subject most likely had ALS or spinal muscular atrophy. "Muscle disease is considered possible, but motor neuron disease - either amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or spinal muscular atrophy - seems to be the most convincing diagnosis." Arabic fluency, or lack thereof

[edit ]
According to Biography of St. Hermann of Reichenau, Univ. St. Andrew's, Scottland the subject probably himself did not speak or read Arabic, but Gerbert of Aurillac (who would become Pope Sylvester II) had most likely translated the mathematics and scientific documents from sources in Spain, and that those translations made their way to the Monastery in Reichenau. That said, can we hold hostage what is stated in other sources without objective proof to the contrary?Caisson 06 (talk) 19:59, 10 March 2013 (UTC) [reply ]

Happy 1,000th birthday to Hermannus Contractus today!

How rare to have such a date so precisely known. -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 05:39, 18 July 2013 (UTC) [reply ]

Illustration

[edit ]

I'm not sure if the illustration given in the article is of Hermann of Carinthia or it is of Hermann of Reichenau. In fact, in the wiki article of the former, there is the same illustration.--Ferran Mir (talk) 14:02, 1 September 2013 (UTC) [reply ]

It's probably the former, given that the person who posted it to the Carinthia article has decent bibliographic information about its origin whereas the article here just says "unknown". -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 08:09, 19 July 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

[edit ]

The very bright supernova of 1054 that formed what is now the Crab Nebula happend in July 1054, so 2 months before his death. Did he observe it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8003:e422:3c01:714b:5300:83ef:2fa5 (talk) 08:25, 17 September 2021 (UTC) [reply ]

Sadly, no, he went blind in his later life, well before the supernova occurred. Bummer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8003:E40F:9601:C8DB:.&checktime(5945,1,13,':')E4 (talk) 08:09, 29 January 2024 (UTC) [reply ]
