If the golden delicious is an apple, I think this statement could use some revision. --Andy M. (talk) 18:48, 14 October 2009 (UTC) [reply ]

I agree. I added a citiation needed tag to the line. NECRAT Speak to me 02:49, 4 November 2011 (UTC) [reply ]

Why is it called delicious?

[edit ]

I always wondered this. Are they actually significantly more delicious than other varieties of apple? If you could, it would be nice if this information could be added to the article. 65.78.144.196 (talk) 07:18, 23 February 2010 (UTC) [reply ]

It is a sweet and bland tasting apple, popular with some and not others. The 'Delicious' in the name is just marketing. --Ef80 (talk) 11:59, 6 June 2021 (UTC) [reply ]

- it is called delicious because it is. i am happily munching one now at my desk! mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm delicious. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.244.182.222 (talk) 11:46, 24 March 2010 (UTC) [reply ]

One whole and one halved Golden Delicious apple against a black background

Golden Delicious is a cultivar of apple. The cultivar arose from a chance seedling, possibly a hybrid of Grimes Golden and Golden Reinette. The original tree was found on the family farm of J. M. Mullins in Clay County, West Virginia, and was locally known as Mullins' Yellow Seedling. Mullins sold the tree and propagation rights to Stark Brothers Nurseries and Orchards for 5000,ドル which first marketed it as a companion of their Red Delicious in 1914 (although the two cultivars are not closely related). Golden Delicious is one of the fifteen most popular apple cultivars in the United States in 2008, popular for eating as well as in salads, apple sauces, and apple pies. This photograph of one whole and one halved Golden Delicious apple was focus-stacked from six images.
