Eureka got its name when an early pioneer shouted "Eureka!" after discovering a spring of water, now known as the Fall River.[citation needed ]

(Fall River and the Eureka spring are two different features. They do not share any course or outfall. Eureka being Greek for "I found it" and made famous by Archimedes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archimedes See: Archimedes' principle) shouting it while running about naked when he discovered a scientific breakthrough in a bath tub. Eureka is a common place name in the United States for areas that have water sources, hence the Eureka with the "it" being found as water, and of which Eureka has three. Fall River, Eureka Lake and the spring which although there are quite a few in the area is located within 100 yards of Main and River; the two main thoroughfares in town.)
