Hello Wiked Ones - I see that in the Pethick Lawrences' own newspaper, Votes for Women they spell their name, as I think did most suffragists who combined their surnames on marriage, without a hyphen: https://www.jstor.org/site/london-school-of-economics/suffrage-journals/votesforwomen-29696048/ Pageturners (talk) 22:49, 11 May 2021 (UTC) [reply ]

Early life?

For a biographical article, this one is pretty thin on its subject's early life. It mentions her father's occupation, but not his name. Her mother is notably absent. Her birth order is the only mention of siblings. Other than being sent away to school, her schooling and influences are absent. Only when she's 24 do we get to the substance of the article. The ODNB article has more - father Henry Pethick of nonconformist Cornish stock, mother's maiden name Collen, she was only briefly at boarding school, happier at day school in Weston-super-Mare, close relationship with father and her Pethick relations, fondly recalled her more conventional mother. Inspired by father's defence of liberty and justice. It's here - you'll need a library card from a British local authority if you don't have a subscription.
